Champion Quick-Lock Straight Union Connector - Tube to Tube (14mm to 63mm)

The Champion Quick-Lock straight union connector is the workhorse of the system: a nickel-plated brass coupling that joins two lengths of Quick-Lock tube in a straight line. Push one stick in each end, torque the nuts, and the joint is finished. No welding, no threading, no glue, no cure time.

Champion also builds the same union with a 1/2 in female NPT port in the middle of the body. That version lets you drop a gauge, a pressure switch, a transducer or a small take-off into the middle of a run without adding a tee.

Installation and Torque

Remove the burr from the outside diameter of the cut tube, clean off the shavings, add a little oil, then rotate the tube as you push it fully into the fitting. Champion's caution: do not loosen the compression nuts before installing the pipe on sizes 14mm to 40mm, since they are torqued at the factory.

Ideal Applications

Joining sticks of tube along a main or a loop, repairing a damaged section by cutting it out and coupling in a new piece, extending an existing run, and, in the ported version, landing a system gauge or pressure switch mid-run without disturbing the pipe layout. The ported union is also the tidy answer where an installer needs a 1/2 in service take-off but a full tee would not fit the space.

How much tube does the union take up?

Each end swallows a set insertion depth, which is why Champion sells a tube ID and depth marking gauge for 20mm to 63mm. Mark both sticks before you push, and you will know the joint is fully home without guessing.

Can I take the union apart later?

Yes. Loosen the compression nut one to one and a half turns, push the pipe in, then pull it out. That is the published removal procedure and it is the reason a Quick-Lock system can be rearranged instead of rebuilt.

What goes in the 1/2 in port on the -08F version?

Most often a liquid-filled pressure gauge, a pressure switch or a transducer. Champion catalogs a 1/2 in MNPT 2.5 in liquid-filled gauge specifically for this port. A 1/2 in plug can also cap it until you need it.

Do I need a union at every joint?

No. Tube comes in 16 ft sticks, so on a straight run you need one union per joint between sticks. Elbows, tees and saddle clamps make their own connections and do not need a union alongside them.

Is this compatible with other aluminum piping brands?

Treat it as not compatible. The fitting is calibrated to Champion's tube outside diameter, and a near-fit on a 220 PSIG joint is not a risk worth taking. Send us a photo of an existing fitting if you are extending someone else's system.

What pressure will it hold?

220 PSIG (15 bar), the same as the tube, and it pulls full vacuum at the other end of the range. Champion's commissioning procedure is to raise pressure in 15 psig increments, inspecting for leaks and joint slippage at each step.
