56 Frame Electric Compressor Motors

NEMA 56 frame electric compressor motors, including the 56, 56H, 56HZ and 56T variants. This is the small end of the NEMA frame range, and it is what you will find under most smaller compressor pumps and on a lot of light industrial equipment.

The frame number tells you the physical mounting: shaft height, bolt pattern and shaft dimensions. The letters after it matter as much as the number. A 56H base has an extra set of mounting holes so it can sit on either a 56 or a 143T/145T footprint, and a 56HZ carries a larger shaft than a plain 56. Measure or read the old nameplate rather than assuming, because a motor that is close but not right will not line up with the sheave or the belt.

Along with the frame, match the horsepower, the speed, the voltage and phase, and the enclosure type. Most motors in this frame size are paired with the smaller compressor pumps, so if you are rebuilding a machine it is worth checking the pump at the same time.

If you are not sure which 56 variant you have, send us the nameplate and a shaft measurement and we will sort it out.
