The Champion Quick-Lock saddle clamp outlet is how you add a drop to a main that is already installed, already full of air and already feeding the shop. The clamp wraps the tube, seals against a drilled hole, and gives you a reducing take-off in 20mm tube, 25mm tube or 1/2 in female NPT. No cutting the main, no removing a 16 ft stick, no re-supporting the run.
For a plant that rearranges, this is the single most useful fitting in the Quick-Lock range. A machine moves, a bench appears, a bay gets added, and the new drop goes in without touching the layout above it.

The tube-outlet versions start at a 32mm main. The compact 1/2 in FNPT versions go down to a 25mm main, which is the size most bench and single-machine take-offs land on.
You Will Also Need the Drill Jig
The saddle clamp seals against a clean, correctly sized and correctly placed hole in the tube wall. Champion catalogs a compact saddle drill jig and matching saddle clamp drill bits for exactly this, one bit covering 25mm to 32mm tubing and another covering 40mm to 63mm. The jig is not optional equipment on a professional install; freehand drilling an aluminum air main at 125 PSIG is how you end up buying a union connector and a new stick of tube.
We can quote the jig and bits alongside the clamps. They are part of the wider Quick-Lock tooling range, with the tube cutter, deburring tools, marking gauge and wrench sets.

Ideal Applications
Adding a bay drop to an existing shop main, feeding a new machine from a loop that is already up, retrofitting outlets into a system installed by someone else, picking up a filter regulator lubricator station off a header, and any job where taking the main out of service to cut in a tee is not acceptable. Common in automotive service, fabrication, woodworking and any plant where the floor plan is not final.
Take the Drop Off the Top
Water in a compressed air main runs along the bottom. A saddle clamp mounted on the underside of a run is a funnel pointed at your tool. Mount it on the top of the main, drop the branch over and down, and keep the main pitched toward a low point with a drain on it. If you want the water trap handled inside the fitting instead, use a reduction outlet tee where you can get the main apart.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install a saddle clamp on a live, pressurized main?
No. Isolate and depressurize the section before you drill it. The clamp is designed so you do not have to dismantle the main, which is a different thing from drilling it under pressure. Close the isolation valve, bleed the line, drill, fit, then bring the pressure back up in stages and check for leaks.
Do I really need the drill jig?
Yes, for a clamp outlet you intend to keep. The jig holds the bit square to the tube and centres the hole, and the clamp's gasket relies on both. Champion catalogs one bit for 25mm to 32mm and another for 40mm to 63mm.
How much flow will a saddle clamp outlet pass?
It is a reducing take-off, so the branch is limited by the branch size, not the main. A 20mm branch carries about 36 CFM at 125 PSIG over 100 ft on Champion's published figures, and a 25mm branch about 76 CFM. That is plenty for a bay, a bench or a single machine.
What is the difference between the tube outlet and the 1/2 in FNPT outlet?
The tube version accepts Quick-Lock tube directly and is what you use to run a proper drop. The FNPT version gives you a threaded port right at the main, which suits a short hose reel feed, a gauge or a regulator mounted close to the pipe.
Can it be removed later?
The clamp itself comes off, but the hole in the tube does not heal. If you remove a saddle outlet permanently, plan on cutting that section out and coupling in a new piece with a straight union connector, or leaving the clamp in place with its outlet plugged.
Will it fit another brand of aluminum pipe?
Do not assume so. The clamp is profiled to Champion's tube outside diameter and the gasket seals on that curve. Send us a photo of an existing fitting if you are working on someone else's system.
