Adapters are the parts that keep a Champion Quick-Lock job moving when the sizes do not line up. Two families live here, and they do different jobs.
- Reducing stem adapters step a fitting down a size. The large end plugs into a Quick-Lock fitting body, the small end accepts the next size down of tube. Use one when a 50mm main has to continue as 32mm, or when you want a 25mm branch out of a 40mm tee without buying a reducing tee.
- Stem adapters put a plain calibrated stem on a thread or on small-bore tubing. The stem pushes into any Quick-Lock union, elbow or tee of that size, so an NPT source can feed a fitting body directly.
Choose your adapter from the dropdown above.

Installation and Torque
The stem end of an adapter is inserted into a Quick-Lock fitting body exactly as a length of tube would be, and the receiving fitting is torqued to its own published figure for that size: 300 cN.m (26 in-lb) on 20mm and 25mm, 400 cN.m (35 in-lb) on 32mm, 650 cN.m (58 in-lb) on 40mm, and 65 N.m (48 ft-lb) on 50mm and 63mm. 14mm is push lock and needs no torque. On the NPT side, use PTFE tape or a liquid sealant rated for compressed air.
Ideal Applications
Stepping a main down as it travels away from the compressor and the demand falls off, branching a smaller drop out of a large tee, feeding a Quick-Lock fitting from a threaded source such as a dryer outlet or a receiver port, adapting 14mm runs down to 1/4 in or 3/8 in tubing at a bench or a machine, and finishing retrofits where the original installer left you a size you did not plan for.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a reducing stem adapter and a stem adapter?
A reducing stem adapter is tube-to-tube: it drops a Quick-Lock fitting from one tube size to the next size down. A stem adapter is thread-to-stem: it gives an NPT connection a plain calibrated stem that pushes into a Quick-Lock fitting body.
When should I use a stem adapter instead of a male connector?
Use a male threaded connector when you are going directly from a thread to a length of tube, since it has the push fitting built in. Use a stem adapter when you need to feed an existing fitting body, for example plugging a threaded source straight into one leg of a tee or an elbow.
Can I reduce two sizes at once?
Champion's range does reduce across more than one step, for example 40mm to 20mm and 63mm to 40mm. What it does not do is 63mm straight to 20mm. Chain two adapters only if there is no other way; a reducing tee or a smaller branch run is usually the better answer.
Why does the 25mm x 1/2 in adapter cost more than the 25mm x 3/4 in?
That is what Champion's August 2026 price list publishes, with XCQL-SA-25-08M above XCQL-SA-25-12M. Both are shown here at Champion's list price rather than adjusted to look tidier. We have flagged the inversion with the factory.
Does reducing the pipe size cost me pressure?
It costs pressure if you reduce too early or too far. Flow capacity falls off fast with diameter: at 125 PSIG Champion rates 63mm at 881 CFM, 40mm at 266 CFM and 20mm at 36 CFM over 100 ft. Reduce only where demand downstream genuinely drops, and keep the main full size all the way round a loop.
Can I reuse an adapter?
Yes. Loosen the receiving fitting's compression nut one to one and a half turns, push in, pull out, and inspect the o-ring before it goes back into service.
