135 PSI air compressors: single stage piston and small shop rotary screw
The 130 to 140 PSI class is where single stage piston compressors top out. A single stage pump compresses in one stroke and works best between 125 and 135 PSI, so this is the natural rating for garage, light shop, cabinet shop and service truck compressors from 1.5 to 5 HP. It is also the pressure of the 140 PSI builds of the Chicago Pneumatic COAIRE oil free scroll and the 130 PSI Chicago Pneumatic CPF rotary screw, which gives shops that want continuous duty at a modest pressure a quiet option.
What is on this page
Single stage piston: Quincy 3.5 HP 135 PSI vertical, ABAC AB3-2160V1 3.5 HP 60 gallon at 135 PSI, Mark Aluminair aluminum pump units at 135 PSI, Chicago Pneumatic 2 HP twin stack hand carry, Chicago Pneumatic Wall Air at 130 PSI, and California Air Tools ultra quiet 1510, 4710W, 5020W and 15020C at 130 to 135 PSI. Oil free scroll: Chicago Pneumatic COAIRE CSOF-S, CSOF-D, CSOF-BH, CSOF-BV and the CSOF basic pump in their 140 PSI configuration, 3 to 60 HP. Where 135 PSI fits
Nailers, staplers, spray guns, tire inflation, blow off and most hand held air tools run at 70 to 90 PSI and never notice the difference between a 135 and a 175 PSI compressor. What matters is the CFM at 90 PSI and the tank size, because a single stage unit stores its reserve between the cut-in (usually 100 to 105 PSI) and the cut-out (130 to 135 PSI). If you need more stored energy per gallon, or you run a pump continuously in a production shop, step up to the 150 and 175 PSI pages, where the two stage units live. If you are buying for a shop that runs air all day, the scroll and rotary screw machines on this page are the ones rated for continuous duty.
