Champion CA-Series S Oil-Free Rotary Scroll Medical Air Systems

The Champion CA-Series S medical air system is a 100% oil-less rotary scroll plant built specifically for hospital and clinical medical air. Air never touches lubricant anywhere in the compression path, so there is no oil carryover to manage, no oil analysis programme and no oil-removal filtration train to maintain downstream. Champion builds these packages to NFPA 99 and CSA requirements, with every multiplex system rated on full system output with one compressor held in reserve, which is how NFPA 99 expects a medical air source to be sized.

Three airend sizes are offered, CA-S5 at 5 HP, CA-S7 at 7.5 HP and CA-S10 at 10 HP, each available as a duplex, triplex or quadraplex system. Duplex systems come on a base with a remote 80 gallon receiver, or tank-mounted on an 80, 120 or 240 gallon horizontal vinyl (epoxy) lined receiver. Triplex and quadraplex systems stack three or four airends and motors on a common base and ship with a remote 80 gallon receiver as standard.

What the Configurations Mean

• Duplex, base mount with remote 80 gallon receiver. Two airends and two motors on one base, with the receiver set remotely. This is the layout to pick when the mechanical room has floor space for a separate tank or when the tank has to live in another room.
• Duplex, 80 / 120 / 240 gallon horizontal tank. Two airends and two motors mounted directly on a horizontal ASME receiver. Vinyl (epoxy) lining is standard on all three tank sizes. Piping and wiring are included on tank-mounted medical systems, so the package arrives as one assembled plant.
• Triplex, base mount with remote 80 gallon receiver. Three airends and three motors stacked on a common base. Ships with the MediTrol Plus HMI control panel as standard.
• Quadraplex, base mount with remote 80 gallon receiver. Four airends and four motors on a common base, again with MediTrol Plus HMI standard. This is the largest configuration in the range.

Voltage is an order-entry choice, not a price axis. The CA-S5 and CA-S7 list identically for 208/230V single phase and 208/230/460/575V three phase. The CA-S10 is three phase only; no single phase row is published for it.

Service, Parts and Accessories

Scroll airends are consumable by design: the tip seals and bearings are replaced on a schedule rather than run to failure, and the interval is shorter at 140 PSIG than at 116 PSIG. Champion sells the CA-Series scroll airends as service replacement assemblies, and we stock and quote them alongside intake filters and aftercooler parts. Frequently Asked Questions

Is this air certified medical grade out of the box?
The compressor delivers 100% oil-free air, which removes the hydrocarbon problem at source. NFPA 99 medical air still requires the full source assembly, dew point and carbon monoxide monitoring and site verification testing. The medical desiccant dryer system on the options listing includes dew point and CO monitoring, and we will walk the full source assembly with you before you order.

Why is the system rated with one compressor in reserve?
NFPA 99 requires a medical air source to meet peak demand with the largest single compressor out of service. Champion publishes the ICFM accordingly, so the figures in the chart above are usable capacity, not the sum of all airends.

What is the difference between MediTrol and MediTrol Plus?
MediTrol is the relay-based panel included with duplex systems. MediTrol Plus is the HMI panel, standard on triplex and quadraplex systems and available as a priced upgrade on any duplex. Both are mounted and wired at the factory.

Can I get a tank-mounted triplex or quadraplex?
No. Triplex and quadraplex systems are base mount only and ship with a remote 80 gallon receiver. Larger 120 and 240 gallon remote receivers are available as priced options.

Does the CA-S10 run on single phase?
No. Only 208/230/460/575V three phase is published for the CA-S10. The CA-S5 and CA-S7 are available in single or three phase at the same list price.

How loud is it?
Champion publishes no dBA figure for the open-frame CA-Series S. Scroll compressors are quiet relative to reciprocating machines of the same horsepower, but we will not put a number on this page that the factory has not published. Ask us and we will request it.

What are the external dimensions?
They are in the model selection chart above, taken from Champion's CA-Series medical brochure. The 2026 price list itself publishes weight and capacity but no dimensions, so if you need a certified dimensional drawing for a submittal we will request one from Champion.

What is the lead time?
Medical systems are built to order at Princeton, Illinois. Ask us for the current build slot before you set an install date.
