The California Air Tools 10020SPC is a 2.0 HP oil free compressor built into a sound proof steel cabinet, and at 58 dB it is quiet enough to run in a dental or medical office, a lab, a print shop, a classroom or an office closet without anyone asking you to turn it off. The compressor inside is the same 10 gallon, 5.3 CFM at 90 PSI unit as the 10020C; the cabinet, acoustic foam, two exhaust fans and swivel casters are what you are paying for. If noise is not the problem, buy the 10020C and save the difference.
What it will and will not run
5.3 CFM keeps up with brad and pin nailers, blow guns, airbrushes, small pneumatic clamps and fixtures, lab and dental handpiece air, and tire inflation. It is not a continuous duty compressor: DA sanders, HVLP spray guns, die grinders and anything that runs for minutes at a time will outrun the 10 gallon tank and the 70 percent duty cycle. For those jobs look at the 14.6 CFM 20060CAD or a 15 CFM class compressor.
Power and placement
It plugs into a 120 V outlet and draws 15 A, so give it a circuit of its own and reach with hose, not extension cord. The cabinet needs a few inches of clearance around the fan openings; the fans only work if the air can get out. Open the doors to drain the tank after each day of use. Maximum pressure is 130 PSI and the pump needs no oil.
What to pair it with
