CHAMPION R-SERIES HORIZONTAL SIMPLEX AIR COMPRESSORS (Horizontal Simplex Variations)
Champion R-Series Horizontal Simplex Reciprocating Air Compressors deliver dependable, two-stage compressed air in a classic, service-friendly layout. With a single splash-lubricated R-Series pump mounted on a horizontal ASME/NB certified receiver, you get stable placement, easy component access, and a wide range of configurations for shop air or plant support.
Why the Horizontal Simplex layout works so well
The long horizontal platform makes maintenance simpler—belt service, filter changes, drains, controls, and accessory add-ons are easy to reach. That translates into less downtime for routine ownership tasks.
R-Series engineering you can feel
- Multi-finned cylinders to help run cooler
- Integral cylinder/head design aimed at reducing head-gasket failures
- Disc-type valves designed for long service and easy servicing by removing manifolds
- Tapered roller main bearings + balanced crankshaft for smooth operation
- Loadless starting so the compressor starts unloaded every time
Standard features (no fluff)
- Load-less starting via centrifugal unloader
- ASME inter-stage pressure relief valve
- ODP NEMA 1760 RPM electric motor
- 10-micron industrial grade intake filtration
- ASME / NB certified receiver + 0–300 PSIG tank pressure gauge
- Common single-phase and three-phase voltage options
Upgrade paths that improve air quality and uptime
- Air-cooled aftercooler – reduces up to 65% of moisture from discharged compressed air
- Refrigerated drying – cools air to roughly a 33–39° dew point to reduce downstream condensation
- Automatic electric tank drain – timed draining to discharge receiver moisture automatically
- Low oil-stop control – protects the unit if oil level drops
- Dual control – run start/stop or constant speed mode
- Electrical & motor upgrades – NEMA 4 starter and TEFC motor options for harsher environments
AirStation option for simplified “dry air” integration
On select horizontal simplex packages, Champion offers the AirStation concept with a mounted refrigerated dryer. It’s designed to be plug-and-play, reduce plumbing, save space, and includes a 3-way bypass valve plus a general-purpose filter.
Pressure options for real applications
R-Series packages are commonly configured for higher-pressure shop air, and an 80 PSI setting is also available across the line for dedicated low-pressure uses like climate control.
Lubrication, warranty, and support
Champion ChampLub lubricants (mineral, synthetic, food-grade) are made specifically for compressor environments. R-Series packages are backed by a strong warranty program, with optional premium coverage, and supported by a broad distributor network.
Common applications
- Automotive and fleet maintenance shops
- Industrial maintenance departments
- Fabrication and weld shops
- Packaging lines and general plant air
