Champion R-Series base mount: pump, motor and starter with no tank

A base mount package is a complete R-Series compressor without the receiver: two stage splash lubricated pump, ODP 1760 RPM motor, belt drive and guard, intake filter and a mounted magnetic starter, all on a steel base. You buy one when you already own a good ASME tank, when the receiver has to sit somewhere else because of floor space or noise, when you are replacing a worn out base mount unit on an existing system, or when a 240 or 400 gallon receiver is the right size and no tank mounted package comes that large. It is also the normal way to add a second compressor to a plant that already has a receiver and dryer.

The range runs from the 2 HP BR2 at 4.1 CFM to the 30 HP BR30 at 101.8 CFM, all rated 175 PSI. In the middle: BR3F 8 CFM, BR5 17 CFM, BR7F 22.3 CFM and BR7 25.6 CFM at 7.5 HP (the F models use the smaller R15 pump turning faster, the non F models the larger R30 pump), BR10 33.8 CFM, BR15F 48.7 CFM and BR15 54.1 CFM, BR20 77.8 CFM, BR25 90.7 CFM. Single phase 208/230 volt is available through 7.5 HP; 10 HP and up are three phase 208/230 or 460 volt.

What you need to add: a receiver sized at roughly 3 to 4 gallons per CFM (a 120 gallon tank for a BR10, 240 gallons for a BR25 or BR30), a pressure switch or a dual control pilot valve, a safety valve and tank gauge, a discharge line with a check valve, and an automatic drain. Base mount units are not California code receivers because there is no receiver; the tank you buy carries that. Pair the compressor with a refrigerated dryer rated at or above its CFM and a filter set.
