XCQL-BS-08-06

Every compressed air installation needs a handful of small threaded parts that are not on anybody's drawing and stop the job dead when they are missing. This listing is Champion's Quick-Lock range of them: hex bushings and nipples to get between thread sizes, plugs to blank an unused port, liquid filled gauges to see what the system is actually doing, and mufflers for an exhausting safety valve.

Bushing or Nipple?
They solve opposite problems and people mix them up at the counter constantly.
A bushing is male on the outside and female on the inside. It screws into a larger female port and gives you a smaller female port. Use it when the equipment port is bigger than the fitting you want to put in it.
A nipple is male on both ends. It joins two female ports. A reducer nipple does the same thing between two different sizes.
Both have hex flats, which matters more than it sounds: a bushing with no flats has to be turned with pipe wrenches on a thread you are trying to seal. Use PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant rated for compressed air on every tapered thread.
Put a Gauge Where You Can See It
A plant that has one gauge, on the compressor, knows its discharge pressure and nothing else. The number that matters is the pressure at the tool, and the difference between the two is the pressure drop you are paying for and cannot see.
Champion's 2.5 in gauges are liquid filled, which damps needle flutter from pulsation and makes them readable and long-lived in a shop. The 1/2 in MNPT version is specified for the ported straight union connector, which is the tidy way to read pressure mid-run without adding a tee. Worth fitting one at the far end of a long main and one at the busiest drop; if those two disagree badly with the compressor gauge, the piping is the problem.
A Note on the Mufflers
These two mufflers fit Champion's lockable exhausting safety valve, which vents a line audibly when it opens. The muffler takes the noise out.
The valve itself is not on the Quick-Lock pages. Champion prices it in the DRI Products section of the same book as XCDI-SV-08F (1/2 in FNPT) and XCDI-SV-12F (3/4 in FNPT), both listed as supplied without a muffler. The Quick-Lock page cross-references the valve under a different prefix than the page that actually prices it, which we have raised with the factory. If you need the valve as well as the muffler, call or email and we will quote both together.
Shared Technical Specifications
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Threads | NPT, male and female as listed; use thread sealant on every tapered joint |
| Gauge Face | 2.5 in, liquid filled |
| Gauge Connection | 1/4 in or 1/2 in male NPT, bottom mount |
| Quick-Lock System Maximum | 15 bar / 220 PSIG |
| System Temperature Range | -4 F to 176 F (-20 C to +80 C) |
| Compatible Media | Compressed air, vacuum, nitrogen, inert gases |
Specification note. Champion's price list publishes the gauge face size, connection and that it is liquid filled, but not its pressure range or accuracy class. We have not quoted a range here rather than guess one. Tell us the system pressure and we will confirm the correct gauge before you order.
Ideal Applications
Adapting a coupler to a port that is the wrong size, blanking unused outlets on a manifold or an FRL, capping a drop that is not in service yet, fitting pressure gauges at the points that actually tell you something, and silencing an exhausting safety valve. Also the sensible contents of a maintenance crib drawer for any plant running compressed air.
Building a Complete Quick-Lock System
- Outlet manifolds and their 1/2 in NPT manifold plug
- Quick couplers and safety coupling bodies
- Ball valves
- Pet cock, electronic timer and zero loss condensate drains
- Straight union connectors, including the ported versions these gauges fit
- Quick-Lock aluminum tubing, 14mm to 63mm
Ordering Notes
- All Quick-Lock products and accessories are NO CANCEL / NO RETURN, per Champion's current price list. That applies to $9 plugs as much as to $750 valves, so check the thread sizes before you order.
- Freight: freight collect from Huntersville, NC 28078 or Las Vegas, NV 89113.
- Shipping weights: Champion publishes no weight for the Quick-Lock accessory range, so no catalog weight is carried on these variants.
Why Buy from Air Compressor Store
Air Compressor Store is an authorized Champion Pneumatic distributor. These are the parts that get forgotten on a take-off. Send us the layout and we will put the bushings, nipples, plugs and gauges on the list with the pipe and the fittings, so the install does not stop on day two for a $9 part.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need thread sealant on these?
Yes, on every tapered NPT joint. PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant rated for compressed air. The Quick-Lock tube connections elsewhere in the system seal mechanically and need nothing, but these are conventional threads.
What is the difference between a male plug and a female plug?
A male NPT plug screws into a female port. A female NPT plug, usually called a cap, screws over a male thread. A hose barb plug blanks off a barbed fitting. Order by what is sticking out of the thing you are blanking.
Why is the 1/2 in male plug more than the 1/4 and 3/8?
$16 against $11 for both smaller sizes, which is what Champion's August 2026 price list publishes. The female and hose barb plugs follow the same shape: $11, $15, $21.
Where should I put pressure gauges?
At minimum: one at the compressor discharge, one after the dryer and filtration, and one at the far end of the main or the busiest drop. The gap between the first and the last is your real pressure drop, and you cannot manage it if you cannot see it. The ported straight union connector is made for a mid-run gauge.
What pressure range are the gauges?
Champion's price list specifies the 2.5 in face, the liquid fill and the connection, but not the range. We will confirm it with the factory against your system pressure before you order rather than publish a figure we cannot source.
Do I need a muffler on my safety valve?
If it is an exhausting safety valve that discharges to atmosphere, a muffler makes it far less startling and much easier on anyone working nearby. Champion prices its exhausting safety valves without a muffler, so it is ordered separately. Match the muffler size to the valve.
