Every compressed air system makes water. A 25 HP compressor in a humid summer can produce twenty gallons a day, and all of it has to leave the system somewhere deliberate, or it leaves through a tool. Champion Quick-Lock condensate drains cover the three ways to get it out, from a $29 manual pet cock to a 5,000 cfm zero loss drain.
Choose your drain from the dropdown above.
Three Types, and What Each Costs You to Run
| Type | How It Works | Air Lost | The Catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pet cock | A manual valve someone opens | Only while open | Someone has to remember. They will not. |
| Electronic timer | Opens on a set interval for a set duration | Every cycle, whether there is water or not | Blows compressed air down the drain on dry cycles |
| Zero loss | Senses actual liquid level and opens only when there is condensate to discharge | Essentially none | Higher purchase price |

| XCQL-ZLD-5000 | PowerMizer zero loss drain | 5,000 cfm |
Size a zero loss drain to the system capacity it is draining, not to the pipe size it screws into. The cfm figure is the air flow the drain is rated to serve.
The Arithmetic on a Timer Drain
A timer drain opens on a schedule. If it is set to open five seconds every ten minutes, that is 720 seconds a day of open 1/2 in orifice, and most of those cycles happen when there is nothing to discharge. The air going down that drain was paid for at the compressor.
That is the whole argument for a zero loss drain, and it is why they exist at a higher purchase price. Whether the payback works for you depends on your run hours, your electricity rate and how aggressively the timer is set, so we will not quote you a generic payback figure. Tell us the compressor, the hours and the rate and we will work it out properly.
What is not in doubt: a timer drain set too tight wastes a measurable amount of air every day, and a timer drain set too loose lets water into the system. A zero loss drain removes the tradeoff.
Where Drains Go
Condensate collects anywhere the air slows down, cools, or reaches a low point. Each of these wants a drain:
- The receiver tank. The single biggest water collector in most systems.
- The aftercooler and the dryer. Where the water is deliberately being knocked out.
- Every filter housing. A coalescing filter that cannot drain is a filter that re-entrains what it caught.
- The low point of every main run. Pitch the pipe slightly so there is a defined low point, put a drop leg on it, and drain that.
- The bottom of long vertical risers.
Condensate from a lubricated compressor is oily water and in most jurisdictions cannot go to a floor drain untreated. Route it to an oil/water separator first. We carry the Champion CSP EnviroChamp 2, Intelli-PAK, CHWS and CH7 ranges for exactly that.

Specification note. Champion's August 2026 price list publishes only the description, connection or capacity and list price for these drains. It gives no voltage, no cycle range, no maximum working pressure and no dimensions for the PowerMizer electronic timer or zero loss models, and we have not found a Champion PowerMizer datasheet. Rather than quote figures from a similar product and present them as Champion's, this listing states only what Champion publishes. If you need voltage or a dimensional drawing before you order, ask us and we will get it from the factory.
Ideal Applications
Receiver tanks, refrigerated and desiccant dryers, filter housings, drop legs and system low points, aftercoolers, and the base of vertical risers. The pet cocks also suit small bench systems and anywhere a manual blowdown is genuinely adequate.
Building a Complete Quick-Lock System
- Quick-Lock aluminum tubing, 14mm to 63mm
- Reduction outlet tees with water trap insert, which keep condensate out of the drop in the first place
- Ball valves to isolate a drain for service
- NPT bushings, nipples and plugs to adapt the drain to the port
- Oil/water separators for the discharge
- Air dryers, which is where the water problem is actually solved
Ordering Notes
- All Quick-Lock products and accessories are NO CANCEL / NO RETURN, per Champion's current price list.
- Freight: freight collect from Huntersville, NC 28078 or Las Vegas, NV 89113.
- Shipping weights: Champion publishes no weight for the Quick-Lock accessory range, so no catalog weight is carried on these variants.
Why Buy from Air Compressor Store
Air Compressor Store is an authorized Champion Pneumatic distributor and we sell dryers, filters, separators and drains as one system rather than as separate line items. Tell us the compressor size, the run hours and what is downstream and we will tell you how many drains you need, where, and whether the zero loss models pay for themselves on your numbers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I just use a pet cock?
Mechanically yes, and on a small bench system it is fine. In a working shop the failure mode is human: the pet cock does not get opened, the receiver fills, and water carries over into the mains. If there is any chance of it being forgotten, automate it.
Timer drain or zero loss?
Timer if the budget is tight and the duty is light. Zero loss if the drain runs on a real production system, because it stops paying for discharged air on every dry cycle. The gap at list here is roughly $150 for a timer against $832 and up for a zero loss, so it is a genuine decision rather than an obvious one. Give us your run hours and electricity rate and we will do the maths.
How do I size a zero loss drain?
By the system air flow it is serving, not the port size. A 200 cfm drain on a 500 cfm system will not keep up. If you are unsure what your actual system flow is, tell us the compressor nameplate and we will work from there.
Why does the electronic timer drain come with a strainer?
Because condensate carries rust, scale and pipe debris, and that is what jams a drain valve open or shut. The strainer is doing the work that keeps the drain reliable. It still needs cleaning as part of routine maintenance.
Can I drain condensate to the floor drain?
Usually not legally. Condensate from a lubricated compressor is an oil and water mixture. Most jurisdictions require it to pass through an oil/water separator first. We can quote the Champion CSP EnviroChamp 2, Intelli-PAK, CHWS or CH7 to suit the volume.
What voltage are the electronic drains?
The price list does not publish it and we have not found a Champion PowerMizer datasheet, so we are not going to guess. Ask us and we will confirm with the factory before you order, which matters here because these are no-return items.
