The Morganton VES04784 is an 80 gallon ASME code vertical air receiver rated for 200 PSI, with four feet and a top plate. This is the tank under most 5 and 7.5 HP vertical two stage compressors: the pump and motor sit on the top plate, the belt guard hangs off it, and the whole package stands on a footprint not much bigger than the tank itself. Buy it to rebuild a compressor whose tank has rusted through, to build a new unit from a bare pump and motor, or to replace a tank that failed inspection.

Sizing and fit

80 gallons suits pumps in the 17 to 25 CFM range, which is where 5 and 7.5 HP two stage pumps fall. Before ordering a replacement tank, check that the top plate is long enough for the pump base and the motor rail you are moving over; send us the compressor model and we will confirm the plate size. 200 PSI working pressure covers 175 PSI two stage pumps with margin, and it is a vertical tank, so the pump sits at a comfortable service height and the floor space stays free. What to add to the tank

Receivers ship bare. Fit a safety relief valve and pressure gauge kit rated at or below the tank's working pressure before it goes into service, and put a drain on the bottom port. A manual drain works if someone will open it every shift; otherwise use an electronic timer drain or a zero loss drain such as the EZ-12, which dumps condensate without venting compressed air. Pipe the drain to an oil water separator if the compressor is lubricated.

Installation and finish

Bolt the feet to the floor through vibration pads and leave 18 inches of clearance around the pump for cooling air and belt changes.
