Collection: Air Hose Quick Couplers

Air hose quick couplers: pick one plug profile and stick to it

A quick coupler is the female socket on the end of a hose or a wall drop; the plug (also called a nipple) is the male end on the tool. The two have to be the same profile or they will not seat, and five profiles are common in US shops. Most leaks, dropped tools and arguments on a shop floor trace back to mixed profiles, so the first job is to choose one for the building and buy every coupler and plug to match. Every coupler here is sold by profile and by body size (1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 inch, which sets the flow), and a universal coupler is the way out when a mixed shop has to accept more than one plug.

The plug profiles

Profile Also called Where you see it Flow Our couplers

Not on the table: ISO B and European profiles (Prevost ISO B kit), claw couplings for 3/4 inch and larger jobsite hose on towable compressors, and the 3/4 inch body couplers for breakers and blast pots.

Safety couplers

A standard coupler releases the plug under full line pressure and the hose whips. A Prevost safety coupler vents the hose first: push the sleeve once and the downstream air escapes through the body, push again and the plug drops free with nothing behind it. The same body accepts the matching standard plugs you already own, so a shop can change to safety couplers one drop at a time. Prevost makes them in every profile above and in stainless steel for washdown and food plants, and the Prevost wall manifolds come fitted with them in Industrial, Automotive, ARO 210 and high flow.

Body size and flow

Body size is the inside passage, not the thread. A 1/4 inch body passes enough air for nailers, blow guns, ratchets and 1/2 inch impacts; 3/8 inch for DA sanders, die grinders and spray guns; 1/2 inch for 1 inch impacts and sandblasting. Match the coupler body to the hose ID and use the same profile on the aluminum pipe drops so one plug fits every outlet in the shop. Replacement rubber coupler protectors keep dropped couplers from chipping a floor or a fender.
