Champion CA-Series Oil-Less Rotary Scroll Bare Air End
This listing covers the four bare air ends that power the entire Champion CA-Series oil-less rotary scroll range: the SC3-5, SC5, SC7 and SC10. A bare air end is the compression element on its own, supplied as a complete scroll pump assembly with integral cooling fan, non-return valve and mounting foot, but without motor, starter, control panel, receiver or aftercooler. It is what you order when you are rebuilding or re-powering an existing CA-Series package, when you are integrating 100% oil-free compression into an OEM machine, or when you want a spare compression element on the shelf for a critical air system.
Champion's scroll design uses a single orbiting scroll running against a fixed scroll, with no oil anywhere in the compression chamber. There are no rings, no vanes and no valves in the air path, so the discharge air is 100% oil-free by design rather than by filtration. The body is aluminium with a special internal coating for durability, the bearings are re-greasable, and the whole assembly is rated for continuous duty at very low noise and vibration. That combination is why the same air end ends up in laboratory benches, dental and medical plant rooms, food and packaging lines, and OEM equipment where a lubricated compressor is simply not an option.
Every air end on this page is a genuine Champion factory assembly ordered by its Champion order-entry number. Prices are from the Champion Oil-Less Compressor Price List effective August 15, 2026.
Model Selection Chart
Pick the air end by the horsepower and discharge pressure of the package it has to serve, then pick Industrial or Medical duty. Both duties share identical construction, performance, weight and list price; they differ only in the order-entry number Champion uses to route and document the part.
| Air End | HP Range | Rated Capacity | Weight | Industrial Order No. | Medical Order No. | List Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SC3-5 | 3 / 5 HP | 9.2 ACFM @ 116 PSIG, 7.2 ACFM @ 140 PSIG, 12.5 ACFM @ 140 PSIG | 45 lb | 306SIA8058 | 329SIA8058 | $7,741 |
| SC5 | 5 HP | 13.9 ACFM @ 116 PSIG | 45 lb | 307SIA8058 | 330SIA8058 | $8,114 |
| SC7 | 5 / 7.5 HP | 14.8 ACFM @ 116 PSIG, 22.1 ACFM @ 116 PSIG, 16.0 ACFM @ 140 PSIG | 61 lb | 341SIA8058 | 339SIA8058 | $9,807 |
| SC10 | 10 HP | 31.6 ACFM @ 116 PSIG, 26.3 ACFM @ 140 PSIG | 62 lb | 342SIA8058 | 340SIA8058 | $12,672 |
What "Industrial" and "Medical" Mean Here
Champion prints two identical specification tables on the bare air end page, one headed INDUSTRIAL and one headed MEDICAL, with the same models, the same capacities, the same weights, the same dimensions and the same list prices, but a different order-entry number in each.
- Industrial duty air ends (306SIA8058, 307SIA8058, 341SIA8058, 342SIA8058) are the service and OEM part for the CA-Series S open industrial and CA-Series ES enclosed industrial packages.
- Medical duty air ends (329SIA8058, 330SIA8058, 339SIA8058, 340SIA8058) are the service part for CA-Series S Medical Air Systems built to NFPA 99.
If you are replacing an air end in an existing machine, order the duty that matches the machine so the part number on your service record matches the part number Champion shipped. If you are specifying a new OEM build, choose Industrial unless the end application is a medical air plant. When in doubt, send us the serial number of the package and we will confirm which number Champion built it with.
Performance by Operating Point
A single air end covers more than one horsepower and pressure combination, because the delivered capacity depends on the speed it is driven at. The table below is Champion's full published matrix. Note that the SC3-5 covers both 3 HP ratings and the 5 HP / 140 PSIG rating, while the SC5 covers the 5 HP / 116 PSIG rating. That is not a misprint: a CA-S5 package uses the SC5 air end when it is built for 116 PSIG and the SC3-5 air end when it is built for 140 PSIG.
| Air End | Horsepower | Max Working Pressure | ACFM at Max Pressure | Air End RPM |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SC3-5 | 3 HP (2.2 kW) | 116 PSIG (8.0 bar) | 9.2 | 2200 |
| 3 HP (2.2 kW) | 140 PSIG (9.6 bar) | 7.2 | 2000 | |
| 5 HP (3.7 kW) | 140 PSIG (9.6 bar) | 12.5 | 2900 | |
| SC5 | 5 HP (3.7 kW) | 116 PSIG (8.0 bar) | 13.9 | 3000 |
| SC7 | 5 HP (3.7 kW) | 116 PSIG (8.0 bar) | 14.8 | 2200 |
| 7.5 HP (5.5 kW) | 116 PSIG (8.0 bar) | 22.1 | 3340 | |
| 7.5 HP (5.5 kW) | 140 PSIG (9.6 bar) | 16.0 | 2650 | |
| SC10 | 10 HP (7.5 kW) | 116 PSIG (8.0 bar) | 31.6 | 3750 |
| 10 HP (7.5 kW) | 140 PSIG (9.6 bar) | 26.3 | 3216 |

- Body: aluminium casting with a special internal coating for durability
- Cooling: integral fan for maximum cooling, no external blower required
- Bearings: re-greasable
- Valving: non-return (check) valve included on the discharge
- Noise and vibration: very low noise, extremely low vibration, suited to occupied space and OEM enclosures
- Footprint: compact, designed for OEM integration
Maintenance Intervals
Champion publishes the tip seal and bearing service life for the bare air end directly, and the interval depends on the pressure the air end is set up for:
- 116 PSIG option: 10,000 hour tip seal life, 10,000 hour bearing maintenance interval
- 140 PSIG option: 5,000 hour tip seal life, 5,000 hour bearing maintenance interval
This is the single most important commercial fact about scroll pressure selection. Running a scroll air end at 140 PSIG rather than 116 PSIG halves the interval between tip seal replacements. If your system can be re-balanced to run at 116 PSIG, the lifetime maintenance cost of the machine falls by roughly half. We are happy to talk that calculation through against your actual plant pressure.
Ideal Applications
- Rebuilding a CA-Series package rather than replacing the whole machine, where the tank, motor, panel and aftercooler are sound
- OEM integration into analytical instruments, laboratory equipment, dental chairs, packaging machinery and printing equipment
- Medical air plant service on NFPA 99 systems where the air end is the wear part and downtime has to be measured in hours
- Critical spares held on site for food, pharmaceutical, electronics and laboratory air systems where any oil carryover is a product-loss event
- Multiplex module replacement on duplex, triplex and quadraplex CA-Series systems, where one module can be swapped while the others carry the load

Ordering Notes
- A bare air end is the compression element only. Motor, drive, starter, control panel, receiver, aftercooler, moisture separator and intake filter are not included. If you need any of those, order the packaged compressor instead.
- Order by duty. Industrial and Medical air ends are physically the same part at the same price but carry different Champion order-entry numbers. The SKU shown on each variant is the Champion order-entry number, used verbatim.
- Weights are Champion's published estimated weights from the August 2026 price list: 45 lb on the SC3-5 and SC5, 61 lb on the SC7, 62 lb on the SC10.
- Specify the pressure you intend to run at when you order, because the 116 PSIG and 140 PSIG build-ups differ in drive speed and in maintenance interval.
- These air ends are subject to Champion's standard rotary discount structure. Freight on CA-Series scroll product is prepaid and add, shipping from Princeton, IL 61356.
Also Available by Quote
Champion prints the following CA-Series scroll items as part numbers with no published list price. We can quote any of them against a current factory price:

Why Buy From Warthog
Warthog Air Compressor Store is an authorized Champion distributor. That matters more on a bare air end than on almost anything else we sell, because an air end bought outside the authorized channel carries no factory warranty and no guarantee that the order-entry number matches the machine it is going into. Everything on this page is priced straight off Champion's own August 2026 price list, not marked up from a grey-market source.
We will help you confirm the right air end before you buy. Send us the model and serial number of the package, or a photograph of the data plate, and we will tell you which of these four air ends Champion built it with and whether the Industrial or Medical number applies. If the economics favour a new packaged compressor over a rebuild, we will tell you that too.
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is in the box?
The complete scroll compression element: fixed and orbiting scrolls, the aluminium housing, the drive shaft and bearings, the integral cooling fan and shroud, the mounting foot and the discharge non-return valve. No motor, no belt, no starter, no panel, no tank, no aftercooler.
Can I fit an SC7 where an SC5 was?
Not as a drop-in. The SC7 is a physically larger assembly (16.97 x 16.57 x 13.94 in against 14.7 x 13.7 x 11.4 in) and 16 lb heavier, and the motor, drive and electricals of an SC5 package are not sized for it. Replace like for like unless Champion has issued a specific upgrade path for your package.
Why do the SC3-5 and the SC5 overlap at 5 HP?
Because the pressure differs. The SC3-5 covers 5 HP at 140 PSIG, turning 2,900 RPM for 12.5 ACFM. The SC5 covers 5 HP at 116 PSIG, turning 3,000 RPM for 13.9 ACFM. A CA-S5 package therefore ships with one or the other depending on how it was ordered, which is exactly why you should check the data plate before ordering a replacement.
Is the discharge air really oil-free?
Yes. There is no oil in the compression chamber at all, so the air leaving the air end is Class 0 oil-free by design. That is a different thing from a lubricated compressor fitted with coalescing filters, where the air is only as clean as the last filter change.
How long do the tip seals last?
10,000 hours on a 116 PSIG build and 5,000 hours on a 140 PSIG build. The tip seal is the defined wear part of a scroll compressor and replacing it on schedule is what keeps the capacity from drifting down.
Do you stock these?
Availability moves. Call or email with the order-entry number and we will give you a current factory lead time before you commit.
Can I get a rebuilt or exchange air end instead?
Champion does not publish an exchange programme for the CA-Series scroll air ends in the current price list. If cost is the driver, ask us to price the tip seal and bearing kit against a new air end; on lower-hour machines the kit is usually the better buy.
