Champion DRS-Series Variable Speed Rotary Screw Air Compressors, 10 to 175 HP
The Champion DRS-Series is the variable speed drive half of Champion's enclosed oil-injected rotary screw line. Where a fixed-speed machine loads and unloads against a set pressure band, a DRS unit varies motor speed to match the air the plant is actually drawing, so the compressor makes exactly the flow the system needs and no more. On a plant with a swinging demand profile that is where the electricity bill goes: unloaded running time on a fixed-speed package is paid for and produces nothing.
Every DRS model ships as a fully enclosed, air-cooled package with a radiator-type aftercooler and oil cooler, spin-on air/oil separator, spin-on oil filter, ASME oil reservoir, heavy-duty inlet filter, minimum-pressure discharge check valve, thermostatic mixing valve, the Champion Governor controller and a RotorLub 4000 fill. The 10 and 15 HP machines are belt driven in a 70 to 71 dBA cabinet small enough to live in a work area. From 40 HP up the drive is direct, with no belts to tension and no drive guard to pull. Capacity runs from 42 CFM on the DRS10 to 737 CFM on the DRS175.
Warthog Air Compressor Store is an authorized Champion distributor. Every price on this page is built from the Champion August 2026 Rotary Price List, effective August 15 2026, which supersedes all previous pricing.

Common to every DRS model: air-cooled radiator-type aftercooler and oil cooler; spin-on air/oil separator; spin-on oil filter; ASME oil reservoir; heavy-duty inlet air filter; minimum-pressure discharge check valve; thermostatic mixing valve; corrosion-resistant control tubing; three phase 60 Hz CSA-approved motor; Champion Governor controller; RotorLub 4000 lubricant; unlimited soft starts from the variable frequency drive (20 HP and up). Water-cooled aftercooling is not offered on any DRS model.
Variable frequency drives are Eaton on the 20 through 30 HP frames, Eaton with an integrated EMC filter and internal DC choke from 40 through 100 HP, and an integrated EMC filter with internal DC choke on the 125 through 175 HP frames. Where a line reactor is listed as an option, the machine already carries a DC bus choke; the reactor is an external ship-loose item.
What the Configurations Mean
Base Mount, Three Phase. The compressor alone on its own feet, piped into a receiver you already own or buy separately. A moisture trap ships loose with every base mount unit. Available on all twelve models.
AirStation. A factory-assembled package: the compressor mounted on a horizontal ASME receiver with stainless steel air supply lines, integrated enclosed fork lift slots and a condensate drain. Offered with an 80 or 120 gallon tank on the DRS10 and DRS15, and with a 120 or 240 gallon tank on the DRS20, DRS25 and DRS30. From 40 HP up the DRS Series is base mount only.
AirStation With Dryer. The same package with a Champion non-cycling refrigerated dryer mounted and piped on the skid, plus a bypass valve and a manual tank drain. The factory matches the dryer to the compressor: XCNCA75 on the DRS10 and DRS15, XCNC100 on the DRS20, and XCNC150 on the DRS25 and DRS30.
Voltage is an order-entry selection, not a price difference. Champion prints 200V, 230V, 380V, 400V, 460V and 575V at the same list price on every DRS model that offers them, so this listing carries one configuration per mechanical package and you tell us the voltage on the order. Not every voltage is offered on every model, so confirm yours with us before ordering.
Ideal Applications
- Plants with a swinging air demand. Shifts that start and stop, machines that cycle, a shop that runs flat out in the morning and idles in the afternoon. A VSD machine tracks the load instead of blowing off air.
- Trim duty on a multi-compressor system. Run fixed-speed base load machines flat out and let the DRS unit follow the swing. Add the sequencing kit or communication module so the machines talk to one another.
- Pressure-sensitive processes. Variable speed holds a far tighter pressure band than load/no-load, which lets a plant drop system pressure and take the energy saving that comes with it.
- Noise-sensitive installations. 70 to 76 dBA through the 100 HP frame, which generally means the compressor can sit in the work area rather than in its own room.
- Soft-start requirements. The VFD gives unlimited soft starts with no inrush penalty, which matters where the utility or the service entrance limits starting current.
Service, Options and Accessories
Every priced factory-installed option for this family is sold on its companion listing, Champion DRS-Series Factory-Installed Options: moisture separators, line reactors, electric and automatic tank drains, sequencing kits and communication modules, remote start kits, disconnect kits and the full RotorLub lubricant range. Options must be ordered with the compressor to be factory installed.
Order-time selections carrying no charge. California Code receiver (must be selected in the configurator; call for California Code receiver dimensions), the RotorLub 4K fill in place of RotorLub 4000, and the 70°C / 158°F mixing valve where the book shows it standard. These are configurator choices, not line items, so tell us on the order rather than looking for them in the cart.
Also available by quote. Champion publishes no list price for the 10-year premium warranty kits, so they are quoted rather than listed: 4798884001 (DRS10, DRS15), 302EJC6032 (DRS20, DRS25, DRS30), MK-D40-50B (DRS40, DRS50), 300DFX6032 (DRS75, DRS100) and 301DMX6032 (DRS125, DRS150, DRS175). The XCNC dryer prefilter on the 20 through 30 HP AirStation packages is also unpriced in the book. Installation kits, remote start kits and heater kits are printed N/A on the 30 HP frame.
Also see the fixed-speed siblings: the Champion D-Series 5 to 175 HP enclosed fixed speed, the Champion L-Series 30 to 40 HP direct-gear 190 PSIG, and the Champion LV / LVR rotary vane range. Browse all Variable Speed Rotary Air Compressors, every Rotary Screw Air Compressor we carry, the full Champion line, and Air Dryers if you are buying the compressor and dryer separately.
Why Buy From Warthog
- Authorized Champion distributor. Factory warranty, factory parts and factory technical support, not grey-market equipment.
- Current price book. Every figure on this page comes from the August 2026 Champion Rotary Price List. Compare-at is full list.
- We size it before you buy it. Send us your CFM demand profile, system pressure, voltage and duty cycle and we will tell you whether a DRS unit actually pays back against a fixed-speed D-Series machine on your load. Sometimes it does not, and we will say so.
- Freight and rigging handled. These are 576 to 6,946 pound machines. We quote delivery, liftgate and rigging up front instead of surprising you at the dock.
- Parts and lubricant after the sale. Separators, oil filters, air filters and RotorLub fills from the same source as the machine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a variable speed compressor always cheaper to run? No. A VSD machine pays back where demand swings. On a plant that runs flat out at a steady load all day, a fixed-speed D-Series machine is usually the better buy, because the drive itself consumes a few percent and a fully loaded compressor has no unloaded time to eliminate. We will look at your load profile and tell you honestly which way it falls.
Why does the Standard Features page for the DRS10 and DRS15 read like a fixed-speed machine? Because it does. In the August 2026 book, the running header on the 10-15 HP spread says "Oil Injected Rotary Fixed Speed", the Capacity Control row reads "Load/No Load", the Starter row reads "Full Voltage", and there is no Variable Frequency Drive row at all, where every other DRS spread reads "Variable Speed", "Unlimited Soft Starts" and names the drive. The pricing on that spread is published under the variable speed section and the models are DRS10 and DRS15. We have published what the book prints and asked Champion to confirm the 10-15 HP standard features in writing. Ask us before ordering if the control scheme on that frame matters to your application.
What weight should I use for freight on an AirStation package? Champion publishes one weight per model and labels it base mount. No tank-mounted weight is published anywhere in the book, so every AirStation variant on this listing carries a zero weight rather than an invented one. Call or email us before you book freight on a tank-mounted unit and we will get the crated weight from the factory.
Can I convert the voltage later? Treat voltage as a build decision, not a field change. Champion builds these to the voltage on the order and a conversion is factory work, not a field swap. Confirm your service voltage before the order goes in.
Do the DRS150 and DRS175 really cost the same? That is what the August 2026 book prints: both at the same list price, with the DRS175 carrying 22 more CFM at 125 PSIG and 125 more pounds. We publish what the book prints. If you are choosing between them, the 175 is the better value on that pricing and we are happy to put the question to Champion in writing before you commit.
What is a line reactor and do I need one? Every DRS machine already has a DC bus choke built in. The listed line reactor is an additional external, ship-loose device for installations with dirty or unusually weak incoming power. Most plants do not need one. Ask your electrician, or send us your service details.
Is this compressor on Champion's advertised-price policy? The Gardner Denver UMAP policy Schedule A lists the L/LRS, LV/LVR, HV/HVRS and HR/HRRS rotary ranges. The D and DRS Series are not on it. We price every Champion compressor at or above the UMAP floor regardless, so what you see here is the lowest price we are able to advertise on any Champion rotary machine.
What is included in the AirStation package? All of the base-mount standard equipment plus a horizontal ASME receiver, stainless steel air supply line, integrated enclosed fork lift slots and a condensate drain. With the dryer option, add the non-cycling refrigerated dryer, a bypass valve and a manual tank drain.
Ordering Notes
SKUs on this listing are Warthog part numbers in the form CH<model>-<configuration>. Champion's rotary price book is a configurator matrix, not a part number table: it prints a Model row and a Configurator (Order Entry #) row, and no orderable stock number. The configurator codes for this family are DRS10-15B, DRS20-30B, DRS40-50C, DRS75-100B and DRS125-175B. Quote your Warthog SKU and we will translate it into the factory order.
Weights shown are Champion-published approximate base-mount weights. AirStation variants carry no weight because none is published. Dimensions are approximate and exclude the receiver on tank-mounted packages.
