Two Different Kits, Not One Kit in Five Sizes

Read the Supplied With column before you order. The 73mm, 90mm and 115mm kits include a threaded adapter, because at those sizes the transition goes grooved pipe to threaded adapter to flange. The 168mm and 220mm kits are gasket and bolts only, because at those sizes the flange lands on the pipe differently and no adapter is in the path.

This matters when you are building a bill of material from a drawing. A 6 in flanged connection is not a 4 in flanged connection with bigger parts in it, and if you order on that assumption you will be a component short on install day.

Standard or High Temperature

Standard is correct for air that has been through an aftercooler, which is nearly every flange in a distribution system. High temperature is for the discharge side, between the compressor and the cooler, where air can leave a rotary screw airend well above 180 F.

At 73mm, 90mm and 115mm the high temperature kit costs about four percent more than standard, which is small enough that if there is any doubt about the duty it is worth taking. At 168mm and 220mm the gap widens sharply, 48 and 31 percent, so at those sizes it is worth establishing the actual temperature first. What a Flange Kit Replaces

The alternative to a proper flange kit is an improvised transition: a threaded adapter, a nipple, a reducing bushing and a companion flange sourced separately, each with its own leak path and its own tolerance stack. It usually costs about the same by the time it is all on the bench, and it is the joint that gets blamed every time the system loses pressure overnight.

Specification note. Champion's August 2026 price list publishes description, part number and list price for the Big-Lock range and nothing else: no flange standard or drilling pattern, no stainless grade, no pressure or temperature rating, no bolt torque, no weights and no dimensions. We have not found a Big-Lock flange datasheet. Rather than publish an ANSI class or a bolt pattern we cannot evidence, this listing states only what Champion publishes. If the drilling has to match a specific companion flange, tell us what it is and we will have the factory confirm before you order.

Does the kit include the gasket and bolts?

Yes, both, in every size. The 73mm, 90mm and 115mm kits also include a threaded adapter. The 168mm and 220mm kits do not, because the connection is made differently at those sizes.

Do I still need a coupling?

Where the kit joins grooved aluminum pipe, yes, order a straight union coupling for that joint. The flange kit covers the transition to the flanged equipment, not the grooved joint behind it.

What flange standard is it drilled to?

Champion does not publish it in the price list and we have not found a datasheet that states it. If your companion flange is a known standard, tell us which and we will have the factory confirm the match in writing before the order goes in. These are no-return items, so it is worth the phone call.

What torque do the flange bolts take?

Not published for the Big-Lock range. Champion publishes a torque ladder for the Quick-Lock range but we are not going to transfer those figures onto a different product and present them as Champion's. Ask us and we will get the Big-Lock figures from the factory.

Can I reuse the kit if I move the equipment?

The flange and bolts yes, the gasket no. Order a replacement gasket in the matching size and grade.

Is there a 273mm flange kit?

Not in the current price list. Most of the 273mm Big-Lock range is consult factory. Ask us and we will have it quoted.
