The ABAC ABC10 Ironman duplex mounts two independent 10 HP motor and pump assemblies on a single 120 gallon horizontal ASME tank. Each side runs a C2 two-stage cast iron pump rated 32 CFM, for 64 CFM combined at a maximum 175 PSI. Because the two assemblies are separate, one can come down for service while the other keeps air on the line, which is the reason most shops step up to a duplex in the first place. How the duplex control works

The two assemblies are not simply bolted to one tank and left to fight each other. The programmable panel alternates which pump leads, so neither side accumulates all the hours and both wear at the same rate. When demand climbs past what one pump can hold, the panel brings the second one in alongside it and the machine delivers the full 64 CFM. That is what separates a duplex from a single 20 HP machine: at light load it behaves like a 10 HP compressor and runs cool instead of short cycling a large pump, and at peak load it has the whole 64 CFM available. The same arrangement is what keeps the shop running when one side needs a valve plate or a belt, since the panel can be set to run on the healthy pump alone.

Installation notes

All three versions are three-phase only, so confirm the panel before ordering and size the feeder to the combined nameplate rather than to one motor. At 1302 lbs on a 25 x 80 in footprint the machine wants a level slab and clearance at both ends of the tank for belt guard access and for the drains. Plan a timed or automatic drain, because a 120 gallon receiver carrying 64 CFM of two-stage air collects condensate faster than anyone remembers to crack a petcock. Keep the room ventilated and give the belt guards room to breathe, since two pumps put twice the heat into the same space.
