A dryer at the compressor does not guarantee dry air at the tool. Long runs, cold bays, dead legs and overnight shutdowns all put liquid water back into a line that left the dryer dry, and that water reaches the paint gun, the air motor or the blast pot before anything else does. The Champion DRI Series water remover is the last line of defence: a point-of-use housing with an element built for one job, pulling 99% of the water droplets out of the air immediately upstream of the drop.

Size by the flow actually passing the drop, not by the pipe thread you happen to have. Undersizing raises velocity through the element, and a water separator that is run too fast re-entrains what it just knocked out.
How It Works
Air enters the housing and is forced to change direction and slow down. Liquid droplets, being roughly eight hundred times denser than the air carrying them, cannot follow the turn. They strike the element, coalesce into larger drops, run down the wall of the bowl and collect in the sump, where the drain takes them out of the system. There is no media to blind off and no pressure drop penalty that climbs with hours the way a coalescing filter's does.
- 99% removal of inline water droplets, which is Champion's own published figure for the DRI element.
- Tempered sight glass so an operator can see water being caught without opening anything.
- Long-life element, replaceable, not a disposable cartridge on a short service clock.
- Extruded aluminum body, so it survives a knock in a working bay.
This is a water remover, not a dryer and not an oil filter. It takes out liquid water that is already in the line. It does not lower dew point, so it will not stop water condensing further downstream if the air is still saturated, and it is not a substitute for a refrigerated or desiccant dryer. It is also not a coalescing oil filter; for oil aerosol removal use a Grade E or Grade F coalescing filter.

Specification note. Champion's August 2026 price list and the DRI Products performance sheet publish thread size, flow and list price only. Neither document gives a maximum working pressure, a temperature range, a dimensional drawing or a shipping weight for these units, so none is stated here and no catalog weight is carried on these variants. We will not borrow figures from a similar housing and present them as Champion's. If you need a pressure rating or a drawing signed off before you order, ask us and we will get it from the factory, which matters on this page because DRI products are non-returnable.
Ideal Applications
Paint and finishing drops, sandblast and abrasive media feeds, plasma cutting tables, air motors and air tools in unheated bays, instrument and control drops on long branch runs, the end of any main that runs through an outside wall or an unconditioned space, and any point of use that is physically far from the dryer.
Service and Replacement
- DRI replacement water remover elements, XCDI-WRE-50 through XCDI-WRE-200
- DRI mounting brackets, XCDI-WRB-3 through XCDI-WRB-7
- Complete DRI drop assemblies, which combine the water remover with a lockable isolation valve and a four-port manifold
- Lockable exhausting safety valve to isolate and bleed the drop for service
Legacy Part Numbers
Champion's 2015 DRI literature used an entirely different numbering scheme, and customers still quote from it. The products are the same; only the numbers changed.
| Legacy Number | Current Number | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| CDRI-50 / -75 / -100 | XCDI-WRVM-50 / -75 / -100 | Complete point of use solution |
| CIVM-50 / -75 / -100 | XCDI-VM-50 / -75 | Isolation and distribution unit |
| CIVWR-50 / -75 / -100 | XCDI-WRV-50 / -75 / -100 | Isolation and removal unit |
| CWRM-50 / -75 | XCDI-WRM-50 / -75 | Removal and distribution unit |
| CSIL-03 / CSIL-04 | XCQL-MF-08M / XCQL-MF-12M | Mufflers for the exhausting safety valve |
Also Available by Quote
Two DRI items appear in Champion's own literature but carry no list price in the August 2026 price book, so they are not sold from this page. We can quote either from the factory:
- XCDI-VM-100 (legacy CIVM-100), the 1 in isolation and distribution unit rated 383 CFM.
- CCC1-AST, the DRI Condensate Catcher Kit.
Ordering Notes
- All DRI products and accessories are NO CANCEL / NO RETURN, stated in bold on Champion's own price list page. Please confirm size and thread before ordering; we are glad to check it with you.
- Brackets are not included with the bare water remover. Order the matching XCDI-WRB bracket alongside it, or buy a complete drop assembly, which includes mounting hardware.
- Shipping weights: Champion publishes no weight for the DRI range, so no catalog weight is carried on these variants.
Why Buy from Air Compressor Store
We are an authorized Champion Pneumatic distributor and we sell air treatment as a system rather than as line items. Tell us the compressor, the dryer you already have, the length of the run and what the drop feeds, and we will tell you whether you need a water remover, a coalescing filter, a bigger dryer or simply a drain in the right place. On a no-return line that conversation is worth having first.
Frequently Asked Questions
I already have a dryer. Why would I need this?
Because a dryer controls dew point at the dryer. Air leaving a refrigerated dryer at a 38 F pressure dew point will re-condense anywhere the line falls below that, which in a northern plant means any run through an unheated bay or against an outside wall. The water remover catches the liquid that forms after the dryer, right where the tool is.
Does it dry the air?
No. It removes liquid water that is already present. It does not change dew point. If you need genuinely dry air, the answer is a correctly sized dryer, and the water remover then protects the point of use from whatever condenses downstream of it.
Will it take out compressor oil?
Not as a coalescing filter would. It removes bulk liquid, which on a lubricated compressor includes some oil carried with the water, but oil aerosol removal is a job for a Grade E or Grade F coalescing element. On paint and instrument air, run both.
How often does the element need changing?
Champion publishes no fixed interval and calls it a long-life element. In practice you change it when differential pressure climbs or when the sight glass stops showing water being caught in a system you know is wet. Most shops look at it annually.
Which size do I order?
Match the flow through that drop, then check the thread. A 1 in unit passes 131 CFM; if the drop only ever sees 40 CFM, the 1/2 in unit is the right product even if the pipe is larger, and a bushing costs less than the oversized housing. If you are not sure what the drop actually flows, send us the tool list and we will work it out.
Can I return it if I order the wrong one?
No. Champion marks the entire DRI range NO CANCEL / NO RETURN. Call or email us before ordering if there is any doubt and we will confirm the size with you.
NOTE: Actual product may be different from pictured!
