Part numbers and applications above are as published in the Champion air treatment price list. Note that M3544 and M3545 are shared between the CSP30 and CSP60, while the pre-adsorption and carbon stages are vessel-specific. The CSP60 carbon stage uses two elements, and M3549 supplies both.

Which Vessel Am I Ordering For

On a multi-vessel system, order per vessel. A CSP120 is two 60 gallon vessels, a CSP180 is three, and a CSP240 is four, so multiply the CSP60 part quantities accordingly. The DISTRIBUTOR fitted to those systems, and any DISTRIBUTOR added to a single-vessel installation, takes one M3544 expansion chamber element of its own.

What Each Stage Does

• Expansion chamber element (M3540, M3544) - Traps rust, pipe scale and sediment as condensate depressurizes and slows, so grit never reaches the carbon. This is the cheapest element in the unit and the one that protects the most expensive one.
• Separation filter (M3541, M3545) - Coalesces fine oil droplets into drops large enough to float free and gravity-drain into the oil collection container.
• Pre-adsorption element (M3542, M3546, M3548) - Breaks contaminant-formed emulsions that gravity alone will not release, taking the heaviest part of the oil load off the carbon bed.
• Carbon element (M3543, M3547, M3549) - Adsorbs remaining dissolved and emulsified hydrocarbon and polishes the discharge to under 15 ppm residual oil.

When to Replace

Draw a sample from the sample valve and compare it to a jar of clean tap water. Clear means the carbon is still working; cloudy means order now. Because the valve draws from two thirds of the way down the carbon depth, a cloudy sample gives you lead time before the discharge actually exceeds your permit limit. The pop-up flow indicator is the second signal, and it stays up until manually reset. If your sample has gone cloudy well ahead of schedule, check your lubricant first: an emulsifying fluid such as polyglycol, ATF or a heavily additized motor oil will blind a carbon bed quickly no matter how good the element is.

Should I buy individual elements or the complete kit?

If more than one stage is due, the complete kit is cheaper than the sum of its parts and it is the service the unit was designed around. Buy individual elements when you genuinely only need one stage, for example an expansion chamber element for a DISTRIBUTOR, or a mid-cycle sediment change on a dirty system.

Why does M3549 cost so much more than M3547?

M3549 supplies two carbon elements, because a CSP60 carries twice the carbon of a CSP30. It is a set, not a single element.

Can I use M3544 in a CSP15?

No. The CSP15 expansion chamber element is M3540. M3544 fits the CSP30, the CSP60 and the DISTRIBUTOR.

What do I order for a CSP120?

A CSP120 is two 60 gallon vessels plus one DISTRIBUTOR. That is two of each CSP60 part, so two M3544, two M3545, two M3548 and two M3549, plus one additional M3544 for the DISTRIBUTOR. Two M3539 kits plus one M3544 is the simpler way to order it.
