Champion CFL Series Inline Air Filter – Grade F Maximum Efficiency Oil Removal (20–780 SCFM)

The Champion CFL Series Grade F is a maximum high efficiency oil removal coalescing filter available in ten flow rates from 20 to 780 SCFM. It removes oil aerosol and submicron particulate down to 0.01 micron with a residual oil carryover of .0008 ppm by weight, which is one tenth the carryover of a standard high efficiency coalescer. Rated to 300 PSIG, the Grade F is the final polishing stage for critical air.

When .008 PPM Is Not Clean Enough

A Grade E coalescing filter at .008 ppm is the right specification for the large majority of industrial work. The Grade F exists for the jobs where it is not: breathing air packages, pharmaceutical and food-contact processes, semiconductor and electronics assembly, medical device manufacturing, critical instrumentation, and finishing lines where a single oil defect scraps an expensive part. At .0008 ppm the Grade F is the last line of defense between a lubricated compressor and a process that cannot tolerate oil.

All ten sizes ship with an internal automatic drain. Models 20 through 60 carry a differential pressure slide indicator, models 100 through 780 a differential pressure gauge. Ideal Applications

Pharmaceutical and food processing, breathing air systems, medical device and semiconductor manufacturing, critical instrument air, laboratory air, precision paint and powder finishing, and any process where a trace of oil is a rejected batch. The Grade F is also the correct prefilter ahead of a desiccant dryer on an oil-lubricated system, because oil that reaches a desiccant bed coats the media and permanently destroys its capacity.

Build Your Filtration Train

For critical air, install in this order: (1) Grade A mechanical separator for bulk liquid; (2) Grade C particulate filter for solids; (3) dryer; (4) Grade E coalescing filter; (5) Grade F maximum efficiency coalescing filter; (6) Grade G carbon filter where oil vapor and odor must also be removed.

Element Replacement and Service

Replace the element annually, or whenever the differential pressure indicator shows a 5 PSID rise, whichever comes first. Do not stretch a coalescing element past its interval: a saturated coalescer does not just stop working, it begins re-entraining the oil it already captured and sends it downstream. Frequently Asked Questions

Grade E or Grade F?

Grade E delivers .008 ppm residual oil and is right for most industrial work. Grade F delivers .0008 ppm and is right where the process specification or an auditor demands it. If you are running breathing air, food contact, or pharma, specify F.

Can I install a Grade F by itself?

You can, but it is expensive practice. A fine coalescing element loaded with bulk liquid and pipe scale plugs quickly. Put a separator and a coarser filter in front of it and the Grade F will run a full service year.

Does a Grade F remove oil vapor?

No. Coalescing filters remove liquid oil aerosol, not vapor. For vapor and odor you need an activated carbon stage, which is the Grade G.

How do I size it?

Size to the actual SCFM at that point in the system rather than to compressor horsepower. Oversizing lowers pressure drop and extends element life, both of which pay for themselves in energy.
