Two Very Different Parts, and Two Very Different Prices

The hanger bracket is $8 to $23 at list. It is a pipe clamp with a threaded insert: you run threaded rod down from the roof steel or a strut channel, and the bracket hangs the pipe on it. You will buy a lot of them.

The cantilever wall bracket is $282 to $344 at list. It is a structural arm that carries the pipe out from a wall or a column with no overhead support at all, supplied with its pipe strap and bolts. You will buy a few, in the places where there is nothing above to hang from.

Both are in this listing because they do the same job in the design, not because they are interchangeable. Most plants use hangers for the long runs and cantilevers at the walls, in the compressor room, and along the perimeter where the roof structure is out of reach.

Support Spacing, and Why It Is Not Optional

Champion does not publish a support spacing table for Big-Lock in the price list, and we are not going to invent one. What we can say about the principle:

• A grooved joint is not a structural element. Support the pipe, not the coupling, and do not let a run hang on its fittings.
• Support either side of anything heavy. Valves, flanged equipment and filter housings want a hanger each side rather than being carried by the pipe.
• Allow for thermal movement. Aluminum moves more than steel over a temperature swing, and a long run clamped rigidly at both ends has to put that movement somewhere.
• Pitch the main deliberately so condensate runs to a defined low point with a drain on it, rather than collecting wherever a sag happens to be.

Specification note. Champion's August 2026 price list publishes description, part number and list price for the Big-Lock range and nothing else: no load rating, no support spacing table, no bracket dimensions, no finish and no weights. We have not found a Big-Lock support datasheet. Rather than publish a spacing table from another manufacturer's aluminum pipe system and present it as Champion's, this listing states only what Champion publishes. If support spacing is going to be inspected, ask us and we will get Champion's figures in writing.

Is the threaded rod included?

No. The hanger bracket has a 3/8 in female insert at 73mm, 90mm and 115mm, and a 1/2 in insert with a 3/8 in adapter at 168mm and 220mm. Buy the rod to the drop length your building needs.

How far apart should the brackets go?

Champion does not publish a spacing table for Big-Lock and we will not transfer one from another manufacturer's product. The rule that always holds is that the pipe carries the load and the couplings do not, and that anything heavy gets supported either side. If a specified figure is needed, ask us and we will get it from the factory.

Why is the cantilever bracket thirty times the price of the hanger?

Because it is thirty times the part. A hanger is a clamp with a threaded insert that transfers the load to rod you supply. A cantilever is a structural arm that takes the whole moment of a pipe standing out from a wall, supplied with its strap and bolts. They are not alternatives for the same location.

Can I use these on Quick-Lock pipe?

No, these are sized to the 73mm to 220mm Big-Lock range. For 14mm to 63mm Quick-Lock runs, the Quick-Lock mounting brackets and overhead hanging system are the right parts.

Is there a 273mm bracket?

Not in the current price list. The 273mm Big-Lock range is largely consult factory. Ask us and we will have it quoted.
