Who the California Air Tools 8010 is for

The 8010 is the compressor to buy when noise is the first problem to solve. At 60 dB it runs at the level of a normal conversation, so it works inside an occupied house, a finished basement shop, a dental or hobby workspace, or a garage with the door shut. It is a 1 HP, 8 gallon unit, so plan its jobs accordingly: brad nailers, finish and pin nailers, staplers, blow guns, tire and ball inflation, and short bursts with a small air brush or a touch up gun. It makes 2.2 CFM at 90 PSI, which runs any nailer all day but will not keep up with a continuous tool. A DA sander, a die grinder or a 1/2 inch impact wrench needs 4 CFM or more at 90 PSI, which means the 20020 or a unit from the 5 CFM page.

Power and placement

The 8010 draws 8.5 amps at 120 V, so it starts and runs on an ordinary 15 amp household circuit, including in cold weather, without tripping breakers. Plug it straight into the wall and run a longer air hose rather than an extension cord; a long or light gauge cord drops the voltage and shortens motor life. The oil free dual piston pump needs no oil changes. Open the tank drain after each session to clear condensate from the steel tank, and keep the unit upright on its wheels when moving it.
