California Air Tools 10020C: 70 dB, 2 HP, 10 gallon, 5.3 CFM at 90 PSI

The 10020C is the compressor for finish carpenters, cabinet and furniture shops, home garages attached to the house, and any indoor job where a normal compressor is too loud to run while people are working. At 70 dB it is about the level of a conversation across the room. The 2 HP oil free dual piston pump turns at 1680 RPM, which is where the low noise and the 3000 hour pump life come from, and the 10 gallon steel tank on wheels gives it enough reserve to run a finish or framing nailer continuously, a brad nailer and stapler at the same time, a blow gun, tire inflation, or a small HVLP touch up gun in bursts. It is not enough air for a DA sander, die grinder or continuous spray painting; for those, look at the 60040CAD or the 20060CAD.

Power. It draws 15 amps at 110 to 120 volt, so it wants a dedicated 15 or 20 amp circuit with nothing else on it. Plug straight into the wall and run a longer air hose instead of an extension cord; voltage drop on a cord is the usual cause of a tripped breaker or a burned motor. The Easy Start valve bleeds head pressure so the motor starts unloaded in a cold garage.

Same pump, other packages: the 10020SPC puts this unit in a sound proof cabinet for about 58 dB, the 4620AC is the same 2 HP pump on a small carry tank for taking to the job, and the 20020 gives you a 20 gallon tank for longer run times between cycles.

Maintenance is draining the tank and keeping the intake filter clean; there is no oil. Add a filter regulator for paint or sensitive tools and a 3/8 inch hose.
