Samuel A10132 1060 Gallon Vertical Air Receiver, 155 PSI
The Samuel A10132 is a 1060 gallon ASME code vertical air receiver rated for 155 PSI, built on an 8 inch base ring so the shell bolts straight to a pad. It is a plant size receiver: the right tank for a fixed speed rotary screw in the 50 to 75 HP range, for a pair of smaller screws sharing one storage volume, or as a dry receiver downstream of the dryer where the plant has large intermittent loads such as blast cabinets, big cylinders or bag houses.
Sizing
For a fixed speed screw, plan on 1 to 2 gallons of storage per CFM of compressor output; a variable speed screw gets by on about 1 gallon per CFM. A 1060 gallon receiver therefore suits systems in the 250 to 500 CFM range, which is 50 HP to 60 HP and up on a single compressor. If the compressor is already fed by a wet receiver and you are adding storage for peak demand, size this tank on the event: the volume of air the big load takes during its cycle, divided by the pressure drop you can tolerate, gives the gallons you need.
Check the working pressure
155 PSI is the maximum allowable working pressure. That covers any screw compressor running at 100, 125 or 150 PSI, with the relief valve set at or below 155. A two stage piston compressor that runs to 175 PSI needs a 200 PSI receiver instead; ask us for the 200 PSI version of this tank.
What to add to the tank
Receivers ship bare. Fit a safety relief valve and pressure gauge kit rated at or below the tank's working pressure before it goes into service, and put a drain on the bottom port. A manual drain works if someone will open it every shift; otherwise use an electronic timer drain or a zero loss drain such as the EZ-12, which dumps condensate without venting compressed air. Pipe the drain to an oil water separator if the compressor is lubricated.
Installation and shipping
Set the tank on a level pad and anchor the base ring. Leave room to open the handhole or manway for inspection and keep the drain accessible. A receiver this size ships by freight on a flatbed or LTL trailer and needs a forklift or a crane to stand it up; confirm the height and weight from the Samuel drawing before ordering so the delivery and the ceiling both work. Pair it with a refrigerated air dryer sized for the full compressor output if clean dry air is required downstream.
