Morganton VES04760 30 Gallon Horizontal Air Tank, 200 PSI, Feet and Top Plate
The VES04760 is a 30 gallon horizontal ASME receiver rated for 200 PSI with welded feet and a flat top plate. The top plate is the point of this tank: it gives you a mounting surface for a pump and motor, so this is the receiver you buy when you are building or rebuilding a small tank mounted compressor rather than adding storage to an existing system. Typical uses are replacing a rusted out tank under a 2 to 5 HP piston unit, building a truck or trailer mounted unit, or putting a bare pump from the pumps collection on its own tank. If you only need storage and nothing will sit on top, the 30 gallon tank with feet only costs less.
Sizing and what to add
Thirty gallons is a sensible buffer for a pump up to about 10 CFM, which covers most 2 to 3 HP single stage and small two stage pumps. Check that the pump and motor footprint fits the plate before ordering. The tank ships bare: add a safety relief valve and gauge, a pressure switch, a check valve on the pump discharge and a drain on the bottom port.
Finish
Grey primer is the standard finish and is fine indoors or if you plan to paint the finished unit yourself. The eleven powder coat colors cost more but hold up outdoors and on trucks. All twelve are listed in the table below with their part numbers.
