Morganton VES04848 30 Gallon Horizontal Air Tank on Feet, 200 PSI

The Morganton VES04848 is a 30 gallon ASME code horizontal air receiver rated for 200 PSI, with welded feet and no top plate. It is the plain storage version of the 30 gallon horizontal: nothing mounts on it, so it works as a stand alone receiver next to a small compressor, as an auxiliary tank at the end of a long shop line, as the buffer for a blast cabinet or tire machine, or as a bolt down reserve on a service truck. If you want to mount a pump and motor on the tank, use the 30 gallon horizontal with feet and top plate instead.

Sizing

At 3 to 4 gallons per CFM, a 30 gallon receiver suits compressors up to about 10 CFM on its own, which is the 2 to 3 HP piston range. Used as an auxiliary tank it adds 30 gallons of reserve to any system, which is enough to stop short cycling on a small unit or to feed a tool that draws more than the compressor makes for short bursts. 200 PSI working pressure covers every single stage and two stage piston compressor; set the relief valve at or below the compressor's cut out pressure.

What to add to the tank

Receivers ship bare. Fit a safety relief valve and pressure gauge kit rated at or below the tank's working pressure before it goes into service, and put a drain on the bottom port. A manual drain works if someone will open it every shift; otherwise use an electronic timer drain or a zero loss drain such as the EZ-12, which dumps condensate without venting compressed air. Pipe the drain to an oil water separator if the compressor is lubricated.

Finish
