Prevost prevoS1 High Flow Safety Couplers, 3/8 and 1/2 Inch Profiles

The prevoS1 is Prevost's one push safety coupler. Press the button once and the coupler vents the downstream hose before it lets go of the plug, so the hose does not whip and the plug does not fire out of the socket at the person holding it. This listing is the high flow version in two profiles: the ESI 07 series, which takes Prevost 3/8 inch high flow plugs, and the ESI 11 series, which takes 1/2 inch high flow plugs. Operating pressure is 29 to 174 PSI; the lower figure is the minimum the venting mechanism needs to work.

When a high flow coupler is the right call

A standard 1/4 inch Industrial (Milton) profile coupler passes enough air for a die grinder, a ratchet or a 1/2 inch impact on a short hose. It starves a 3/4 or 1 inch impact gun, a sander or grinder that runs continuously, a blast nozzle, or any tool at the end of a long 1/2 inch hose, because the coupler bore is the smallest point in the line. The 3/8 inch high flow profile has a much larger bore than the Industrial profile and is the usual upgrade for 3/8 and 1/2 inch hose in tire shops, body shops and fleet garages. The 1/2 inch profile is for 3/4 inch hose and the biggest hand tools. If a tool runs fine at the compressor and dies at the end of the hose, the coupler profile is the first thing to change.

Plug compatibility

These profiles are not interchangeable with Industrial, Automotive (Truflate) or ARO 210 plugs. Order the matching Prevost high flow plugs for the tools and hose ends, and plan to change every plug on the hoses that will use these couplers. Picking the connection

Female NPT threads onto a drop, a manifold or a hose reel outlet. Male NPT threads into a hose end fitting, a ball valve or a tool. Hose stem couplers push into the hose and clamp or crimp, which is the tidy way to end a hose without a separate barb and adapter. Match the thread or stem size to what you have; the plug profile is what decides the flow, not the thread size.
