What 90 CFM supports

A plant with 20 to 30 air stations, a collision center with three booths, a truck dealership with a dozen bays, or a precast yard running vibrators and blow off. At this size the compressor usually earns its own room.

Pressure rating matters more than the CFM figure

Every rotary screw here is listed at more than one pressure. The same G15L makes 93 CFM at 100 PSI and 78 CFM at 150 PSI. Buy the lowest pressure rating that satisfies the tools on the line; every 10 PSI of extra pressure costs about 5 percent in energy and cuts delivered CFM. The 175 PSI Champion piston units suit shops where a few tools need the higher pressure and the rest runs off a regulator.

Piston or screw

The 25 HP Champion pumps are cast iron two stage units for shops that run hard part of the day and want simple service. A 20 HP fixed speed screw makes the same air, runs cooler and quieter, and can run all shift. The QOF scroll is for labs, food, pharma and paint lines where the air must be oil free.

Power and dryer sizing

A 20 HP motor draws about 27 amps at 460 volt or 54 amps at 230 volt; a 25 HP motor about 34 or 68 amps. Pair the compressor with a 100 to 125 CFM refrigerated air dryer. Several CPBG, GA15 and G15L variants include the dryer.
