The Quincy QGS is a fixed speed, oil injected rotary screw air compressor sold in ten sizes from 5 to 50 HP. It is the economical way into rotary screw air for a shop that runs air most of the day and is tired of a piston compressor's noise, heat and oil carryover: automotive and tire shops, cabinet shops, fabrication, powder coating, small manufacturing and plant maintenance. Compared with a two stage piston of the same horsepower, a QGS runs quieter, delivers air continuously without a duty cycle, and puts far less oil into the line.
How to pick a model
Size by delivered CFM with 20 to 30 percent headroom over your tool load. The QGS-5 delivers 16.8 CFM at 145 PSI and the QGS-7.5 25.3 CFM at 150 PSI; from 10 HP up the pressure rating is 125 PSI: QGS-10 38.8 CFM, QGS-15 54.9, QGS-20S 60.9, QGS-20 82.2, QGS-25 99.4, QGS-30 113.8, QGS-40 154.9 and QGS-50C 203.1 CFM. Note the two 20 HP machines: the QGS-20S is a smaller airend on a 20 HP motor built down to a price, the QGS-20 is the full 82 CFM package. Choose base mounted if you already own a receiver, or the tank mounted version (60 gallon on the 5 and 7.5, 132 gallon on 10 through 30 HP) for a complete package. Order with dryer to get an integrated refrigerated dryer on the same skid; otherwise a stand alone refrigerated dryer is easier to service and can be sized separately.
Power and install
Three phase units are tri-volt, 208, 230 or 460 V, selected at install. The QGS-5 and QGS-7.5 tank mounted versions are also offered in 230 V single phase, the only QGS sizes that are. A rotary screw wants a clean, cool room with the cooling exhaust able to escape, about three feet of service clearance, and a receiver of at least 60 gallons on base mounted units so it does not short cycle. Pipe out through a flex connector into the receiver, then filtration, then the shop loop.
What to pair it with
