WEG 5 HP Compressor Duty Motor, 184Y Frame, Ingersoll Rand Replacement
The WEG 00536OS1CCDW184Y-S is a 5 HP, 3450 RPM, single phase 208 to 230 volt compressor duty motor in a rolled steel 184Y frame. It is the direct replacement for the Ingersoll Rand motors sold under part numbers 24469552, 23378805 and 47669474001, the motor fitted to IR's 5 HP single phase shop compressors.
Why a 184Y and not a 56HZ
The IR nameplate calls the original motor a 56HZ, and that is where replacement orders go wrong. Ingersoll Rand does not follow the NEMA dimensions on the smaller 5 HP compressor series, so a catalog 56HZ motor from any other maker will not line up with the IR base. The IR bolt pattern and shaft height match a 184Y frame exactly, which is why this WEG bolts straight down without redrilling the base or shimming the motor.
- Frame: 182/4Y, rolled steel
- Horsepower and speed: 5 HP, 3450 RPM

Install notes
Check the incoming voltage at the pressure switch before you order; a 5 HP single phase motor on a 208 V service runs at the top of its amp rating and needs the full 1.15 service factor margin, so a weak 208 supply is the usual cause of a compressor motor tripping. The motor draws 21 to 22 amps running and several times that on start, so it belongs on its own circuit, usually a 30 amp breaker on 10 AWG copper; confirm the run length and wire size with your electrician. If the original pressure switch carried the motor load directly, check its amp rating against this motor, or switch the motor through a magnetic starter and let the pressure switch handle only the coil. Move the pulley across onto the 7/8 inch shaft, line the belt up with a straightedge across both pulley faces, and recheck belt tension after the first few hours. Single phase motors reverse by swapping leads at the terminal box, so match the direction arrow on the pump flywheel; a two stage pump run backwards does not cool properly.
Need help finding a replacement motor? Email or text us a picture of the data plate of the motor you are replacing. If the nameplate is gone, send the HP, frame size, RPM, phase, voltage, enclosure type (ODP or TEFC), shaft diameter and service factor. Never assume the incoming voltage; measure it before ordering. More options are in our air compressor motors collection, and complete 5 HP air compressors are there if the pump is tired too.
NOTE: Actual product may be different from pictured!
