A Super-Dry pipe union is the fitting that lets you take a dryer, water separator or filter housing back out of the line without cutting pipe or unthreading the whole run. Each union is galvanized steel with a straight body and female pipe (NPT) threads on both ends. Five sizes cover the 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/2" and 2" ports used across the Super-Dry line. Anyone who expects to service, move or replace equipment should plan a union into each side of the connection.
How it works
- A union is a three-piece fitting: two threaded ends plus a center nut that draws them together, so the joint can be separated in place.
- Both ends are female pipe (NPT), so they thread onto male pipe or onto a close nipple screwed into the equipment port.
- Loosening the center nut frees the equipment without disturbing the pipe threads on either side, which keeps the rest of the run intact.
- The body is galvanized steel in a straight shape, sized by pipe size rather than by flow rate.

Which size do I need
- 1/2" (UN-1/2): 1/2" NPT connections, including the 45 SCFM FSD water separator, the SAF-45 filter housing and 1/2" point-of-use dryers.
- 3/4" (UN-3/4): 3/4" NPT connections, including the 85 SCFM FSD separator and SAF filter housing.
- 1" (UN-1): 1" NPT connections, including the D1 desiccant dryer and the 185 SCFM FSD separator and SAF filter housing.
- 1-1/2" (UN-1.5): 1-1/2" NPT connections, including the D2 dryer and the 375 SCFM FSD separator and SAF filter housing.
- 2" (UN-2): 2" NPT connections, including the D3 dryer and the 515 SCFM FSD separator and SAF filter housing.
- For a 3" NPT port such as the D4 dryer, fit a reducing bushing to 2" or 1-1/2" first, then use the matching union.
Typical applications
- Making a desiccant dryer removable for cartridge service or seasonal changes
- Isolating a water separator or filter housing so it can be pulled for cleaning
- Building a treatment train that can be reconfigured without cutting pipe
- Adding serviceable joints at paint booth and sandblasting drops
- Replacing a seized or leaking union in an existing compressed air line
- Connecting equipment where the piping cannot be rotated to thread it together
Super-Dry unions turn a permanent threaded joint into one you can open with a wrench, which matters on D Series dryers, FSD separators and SAF filter housings that need periodic service. Warthog Air Compressor Store is an authorized US source for Super-Dry Systems Inc. We supply the same fittings used on factory installations for plant air, paint and blast applications. Order the union in the pipe size that matches your port, and pair it with a close nipple if the port is female.
