This start relay is a genuine Chicago Pneumatic replacement part that switches the start capacitor and start winding into and out of a compressor motor circuit. At the instant of start-up it connects the starting components, then drops them out once the motor reaches running speed so the motor runs on its main winding alone.
A faulty start relay leaves the compressor unable to start, or lets the start winding stay energized too long and overheat. The correct relay keeps the starting sequence clean and repeatable.
