The Powerex SLAE03EB is a 3 HP oil-free scroll air end. Instead of pistons and valves, two spiral scrolls, one fixed and one orbiting, squeeze a pocket of air continuously toward the center. There is no reciprocating mass, no valve clatter and no oil anywhere in the compression chamber, which is why scroll air ends are the quiet choice for dental operatories, labs and anywhere the compressor shares a wall with people.

Why scroll
A scroll air end runs quieter and with far less vibration than a reciprocating pump of the same output, so it often mounts without isolation pads and does not need a sound enclosure to be bearable in an occupied space. Compression is continuous rather than pulsed, which also means less receiver ripple and an easier life for downstream dryers and regulators. The tradeoff is pressure: this air end tops out at 116 PSIG, so size the system for 100 PSIG service, not 175.
