Every size on this page is the Atlas Copco organoclay ("CLAY") version of the OSC oil/water separator. The organoclay cartridge is standard on these part numbers, not an add-on, so these units handle the stronger, more stable emulsions produced by synthetic and semi-synthetic compressor lubricants instead of only mineral oil.
The OSC series separates lubricant from compressor condensate so the water can be discharged to sewer legally and safely. Condensate from a lubricated air compressor, its aftercooler, dryer and filter drains is an oil/water emulsion, and in most jurisdictions discharging it untreated is a violation. The OSC brings outlet oil content down to as low as 5 ppm, with no electricity, no chemicals and no moving parts.
Select your size by SKU
Sizing is based on the capacity of the compressor (and dryer) feeding the separator, not on the condensate volume. Match the "compressor + dryer" column if your system has a refrigerated dryer and filters downstream, which is the usual case.
| Model | SKU | Max compressor capacity (compressor only) | Max compressor capacity (compressor + dryer & filters) | Condensate inlet | Water outlet | D x W x H | Weight |

Why the organoclay version
A standard activated carbon cartridge adsorbs free and lightly dispersed oil very well. It struggles when the oil is chemically emulsified into the water, which is what happens with polyglycol, polyalphaolefin, diester and other synthetic or semi-synthetic compressor lubricants, and with food-grade oils. Organoclay is a surface-modified bentonite that absorbs those emulsified hydrocarbons into the clay structure rather than relying on surface adsorption alone.
- Choose organoclay if your compressor runs a synthetic, semi-synthetic, polyglycol or food-grade lubricant.
- Choose organoclay if you have ever failed a discharge test with a carbon-only separator, or if your local limit is tight.
- Organoclay also tolerates detergent and coolant carryover better than carbon alone.
Features
- Multi-stage filtration. OSC 12 through OSC 625 are two-stage units. OSC 1250 and OSC 2500 are three-stage.
- Outlet oil content as low as 5 ppm under Atlas Copco reference conditions.
- 4,000 hour service interval on the serviceable sizes.
- Test outlet so you can draw a sample and verify filtration performance without breaking into the line. A test capsule is standard on OSC 12 and OSC 25.
- Service indicator signals when the polypropylene filter bag is saturated.
- Overflow indicator confirms correct water passage through the unit.
- No power required. Gravity and pressure differential only, so there is nothing to wire and nothing to fail electrically.
- Multiple condensate inlets on OSC 50 and larger, so several drains can feed one separator.
How it works
- Condensate enters through one or more inlets, passes a diffuser and depressurizes in the expansion chamber. The diffuser catches larger solids before they can foul the filter media.
- The oil/water mixture moves into the first filter chamber and seeps through a polypropylene filter, which adsorbs oil but passes water.
- Dwell time in the chamber allows a natural secondary separation as remaining free oil floats up and is taken by the filter bag.
- Significantly cleaner condensate flows into the second chamber.
- A removable organoclay cartridge captures the remaining emulsified oil droplets.
- Clean condensate exits with almost no residual oil, ready for sewer discharge.
Serviceable versus single-use
OSC 12 and OSC 25 are compact single-use units. When the media is exhausted, the whole unit is replaced. OSC 50 and larger are serviceable, with replaceable polypropylene filter bags and organoclay cartridges. If you are treating condensate from a small shop compressor and want a service-kit design instead of a replace-the-unit design, step up to the OSC 50.
Sizing and reference conditions
Published capacities assume 60% relative humidity, 77°F (25°C) inlet air, 12 running hours per day and 102 psi (7 bar) effective working pressure. Hotter, wetter or longer-running installations produce more condensate, so apply correction factors:
| Relative humidity | 50% | 60% | 70% | 80% | 90% | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Correction factor | 1.10 | 1.00 | 0.85 | 0.74 | 0.66 | ||
| Ambient temperature | 59°F | 68°F | 77°F | 86°F | 95°F | 104°F | |
| Correction factor | 1.33 | 1.17 | 1.00 | 0.76 | 0.50 | 0.30 | |
| Running hours per day | 12 | 14 | 16 | 18 | 20 | 22 | 24 |
| Correction factor | 1.00 | 0.86 | 0.75 | 0.67 | 0.60 | 0.55 | 0.50 |
Multiply the table capacity by the applicable factors. A 100 CFM compressor running 24 hours a day in a 95°F room at 80% humidity, for example, needs considerably more separator than its nameplate CFM would suggest. If you are not sure, send us your compressor model, dryer, run hours and room conditions and we will size it for you.

Compatibility
The OSC is brand-agnostic. It treats condensate from any lubricated rotary screw or reciprocating compressor, aftercooler, refrigerated or desiccant dryer, coalescing filter or wet receiver drain, whether the compressor is an Atlas Copco, Chicago Pneumatic, Quincy, Ingersoll Rand, Kaeser, Sullair, Champion or anything else. Size to the compressor capacity, not the brand.
Not for use with oil-free compressors, where a separator is unnecessary, or for process water, coolant or parts-washer waste.
