How a membrane nitrogen generator works

1. Pre-treated compressed air enters the membrane bundle, which is made up of hundreds of thousands of hollow fibers.
2. Through a process called selective permeation, fast-moving gases such as oxygen, water vapor and CO2 permeate the fiber walls and are vented.
3. The slower nitrogen molecules travel through the center of the fibers and exit as a continuous, high-purity nitrogen stream.
4. Adjusting the outlet flow sets the purity: lower flow yields higher purity, higher flow yields more nitrogen at lower purity.
