This coalescing element is offered as an equivalent to Domnick Hunter 020ACS and installs in the housing the original part was specified for. As air flows through the media, suspended oil and water aerosols are intercepted, brought together into drops large enough for gravity to act on, and drained out of the air stream.
The point of coalescing filtration is to stop liquid before it reaches anything expensive. Downstream of a good element the air is cleaner going into coalescing air filters further along the line, into dryers, and into the tools and instruments that actually do the work.
Keep an eye on pressure drop across the filter, since that is the honest indicator of when the element is spent. Additional sizes and grades are listed under coalescing filters and elements.
