Dodge Type H Split-Taper Bushing, Keyed, for Bushed FHP V-Belt Sheaves
Genuine Dodge Type H split-taper bushings, supplied with keyseat, for bushed fractional-horsepower V-belt sheaves. These are the two-screw flanged bushings that go into the bushed AK, BK, 2AK and 2BK sheave families and small bushed sprockets. The 4 degree tapered bore draws the bushing down onto the shaft as the two cap screws are tightened, giving a concentric, backlash-free grip that comes apart again without a puller.
Three stock bores are listed here: 1 in. (Dodge 122053), 1-1/8 in. (Dodge 122054) and 1-3/8 in. (Dodge 121145). Pick the bore that matches your shaft.
Key specifications
- Series: Dodge symbol QT / (L), known throughout the industry as Type H
- Torque rating: 1,000 lb-in
- Hardware: two 1/4-20 x 7/8 in. cap screws, supplied with the bushing
- Installation torque: 90 lb-in. Do not exceed it. Over-torquing a taper bushing splits the sheave hub
- Flange outside diameter: 2.50 in. | Flange thickness: 0.35 in. | Bolt circle: 2.00 in.
- Barrel diameter: 1.63 in. | Length through bore: 1.35 in.
- Minimum hub diameter: 3.00 in. in class 30 cast iron, 2.375 in. in steel
- Bore range for the series: 3/8 in. minimum. Maximum 1-1/4 in. with a full keyway, 1-1/2 in. with a shallow keyway, 1-9/16 in. unkeyed
- Taper: 4 degrees. Mounts conventionally or reversed
- Material: sintered steel
Bore, keyway and weight by size
- 1 in. bore (122053): keyseat 1/4 x 1/8 in., shaft keyseat 1/4 x 1/8 in., 1/4 in. square key. 0.62 lb
- 1-1/8 in. bore (122054): keyseat 1/4 x 1/8 in., shaft keyseat 1/4 x 1/8 in., 1/4 in. square key. 0.56 lb
- 1-3/8 in. bore (121145): shallow keyseat 5/16 x 1/16 in., shaft keyseat 5/16 x 5/32 in., 5/16 x 7/32 in. key furnished with this size. 0.43 lb
The 1-3/8 in. bore sits past the series limit for a full keyway, so Dodge supplies it with a shallow keyseat and furnishes the matching key. That is correct for the part, not an error, but it does mean the key is not a standard square key. Keep it with the bushing.
Fitment and naming
These go into hubs bored for the Type H bushing. They are not interchangeable with Dodge SD or SK QD bushings, which are larger, use three cap screws and fit a different hub bore. They are also not Taper-Lock bushings, despite a number of catalogs listing them that way; Taper-Lock is a separate keyless-flange line (1008, 1108, 1210, 1610 and so on).
Cross references for the same bushing from other makers: Maska HX1, Martin H 1, TB Wood's QT1, Gates QT 1, Carlisle H-1, Browning and Regal H 1.
Installation
Wipe the taper and the bore clean and dry. Do not use anti-seize, oil or any lubricant on the mating taper surfaces, which would cause the bushing to over-advance and crack the hub. Align the keyways, start both cap screws evenly, then tighten alternately to 90 lb-in. Recheck the torque after a few hours of running.
