How to read the part number
In this Dodge line the number after the section letter is the B section pitch diameter, not the outside diameter. A 3B70 is a three-groove sheave with a 7.0 in. B pitch diameter and a 7.35 in. outside diameter. The A section pitch diameter runs 0.40 in. below the B figure, and the outside diameter runs 0.35 in. above it. Dodge marks the full designation on the casting, for example 3A6.6 B7.0 SK. Several distributor datasheets publish pitch diameters for these parts that are larger than the outside diameter, which is not possible, so work from the designation on the part rather than from a catalog field when you are matching an existing drive.
Typical applications
Three-groove B section sheaves carry considerably more power than a two-belt drive and are the usual choice on 10 to 25 HP reciprocating air compressor packages, large blowers and exhaust fans, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, conveyors, and shop machinery where belt slip has become a problem on a two-groove drive. The QD bushing means a single sheave stocks across several shaft sizes and comes off cleanly at service time.
