Important: this is the utility-mount (deck-mount) configuration, not a towable. The CPS 185 KDU ships as a support-mounted skid designed to be fix-mounted on a truck deck or service body. It has no trailer, no axle, no hitch, and no DOT light package. If you need a trailer-mounted 185, see the towable alternatives at the bottom of this page.
The Chicago Pneumatic CPS 185 KDU T4F is the 185 CFM diesel airend package that utility fleets, line-truck builders, and service-body outfitters spec when the compressor lives on the truck instead of behind it. It delivers 185 CFM at 100 PSI from a 49 HP Kubota V2403 Tier 4 Final diesel, built around CP's direct-driven C111 airend: no gearbox, no belts, no parasitic drive losses.
Why deck-mount instead of towable
Mounting the compressor on the truck deck removes a trailer from the fleet. There is no second set of tires, lights, bearings, or registrations to maintain, nothing to unhitch at the jobsite, and no separate unit to lose track of overnight. For electric co-ops, telecom contractors, and municipal water and wastewater fleets running Class 4 to 6 service bodies, the KDU's footprint and support-mount frame are the reason it gets specified as the default onboard air supply.

What 185 CFM gets you
185 CFM is the most common contractor-owned CFM size in North America for good reason. It is the smallest compressor that comfortably runs two ¾-inch pneumatic tools at once, whether that is two 60-lb breakers, an impact wrench alongside an air drill, or a chipping hammer with a rivet buster. It is also large enough for single-nozzle sandblasting up to roughly a #6 nozzle at 100 PSI.
Common applications
- Electric utility line work mounted on the line truck: pole setting, anchor installation, hot-stick operations
- Telecom and cable: pneumatic blowers for fiber installation and conduit jetting
- Pipeline construction: pneumatic valve actuation, line clearing, pneumatic test pumps
- Service body air supply: onboard air wherever the truck goes, no trailer to tow
- Light to medium sandblasting: single-nozzle abrasive blasting, paint stripping, rust removal
Standard configuration
- Support-mounted frame for fix mounting on a truck deck
- Single-stage oil-injected rotary screw airend (C111), direct-driven
- Kubota V2403-CR Tier 4 Final diesel engine
- CP XC2003 controller with diagnostic display
- 110% spill-free containment frame
- Heavy-duty 2-stage air filtration and centrifugal oil separator
- 2 x ¾" NPT service air outlets
- 400W 120V block heater
- Internal toolbox and external lifting eye
Factory options
- Cold weather package (synthetic compressor oil)
- OSHA valve, ¾"
- 90-degree outlet flange
The KDU's discharge can also be configured through a 1¼" NPT outlet flange with a Y valve for dual ¾" claw (Chicago) couplings. Call for the correct option part numbers.
Why the C111 direct-driven airend matters
Most 185 CFM diesel packages use a gear-reduced or belt-driven airend, so the engine has to overcome the parasitic losses of that drive system before any air gets compressed. The C111 is coupled directly to the engine flywheel: no gearbox, no belts, no idler pulleys. In practice that means lower fuel consumption per CFM delivered, fewer wear items, and a quieter machine. Over a typical 2,000-hour annual duty cycle the direct-drive design commonly saves several hundred gallons of diesel against belt-driven competitors.
Need a towable 185 instead?
If your application requires a trailer with a DOT light package, 4-way plug, pintle hitch, and safety chains, this is not the right model. Look at the CPS 185 KD T4F, the towable version of this same Kubota-powered machine, or the CPS 185-100 KoD towable with the Kohler KDI 1903 engine and extended fuel autonomy. Call us and we will spec the correct configuration.
