This spin-on air/oil separator replaces Chicago Pneumatic 6221-3478-50. Spin-on separators arrive as a single sealed canister that threads onto the compressor, so the change is quick and there is no housing to open or gasket to seat by hand.
The separator is what keeps lubricating oil in the compressor and out of the air line. Once its media is loaded, pressure drop rises and oil carryover begins, so it is replaced on hours as part of routine service along with the oil and the oil filter.
