This air/oil separator is supplied as an equivalent replacement for Chicago Pneumatic part number 8973-0352-91. It is the element that recovers lubricating oil from the compressed air stream inside a rotary screw compressor before the air leaves the package.
Separators are a planned replacement item. As the media loads, pressure drop across the separator climbs and oil carryover into the air system increases, so the interval is set on running hours rather than on symptoms. Changing the separator at the same time as the oil and the oil filter keeps the lubrication loop in step.
