The Champion XCHBA Series is an X-Series twin-tower heated blower purge regenerative desiccant air dryer offered in ten capacities from 150 to 1200 SCFM, delivering a -40°F (-40°C) pressure dew point at a maximum working pressure of 150 psig. Instead of throwing away compressed air to regenerate the offline tower, the XCHBA draws in ambient air with its own blower, heats it, and pushes it through the bed. The expensive air you paid a compressor to make stays in your pipe.
Every XCHBA ships as a complete filtered package with a coalescing prefilter and a particulate afterfilter mounted and piped, a 7 inch color touchscreen controller, NEMA 4 electrical enclosures, and a 460/3/60 power connection.
Select your capacity and control package from the dropdowns above.
Where a Blower Purge Dryer Earns Its Price
Every regenerative desiccant dryer has to drive moisture back out of the tower that just finished drying. A heatless dryer does it with expanded compressed air, which is the simplest approach and the most expensive air in your plant. A heated purge dryer heats that compressed purge air so it needs less of it. A heated blower purge dryer stops using compressed air for the heavy lifting altogether: a blower pulls in ambient air, a heater raises it to regeneration temperature, and that free air strips the bed.
The XCHBA still uses a small amount of dry compressed air for the cooldown step at the end of regeneration, and Champion makes Compressed Air Cooldown a standard feature rather than an option, because cooling the bed before it comes back online is what keeps the dew point spike out of your header at changeover.
The economics are simple. You pay more up front, you add a blower and a heater to maintain, and you stop venting production air around the clock. At 600 SCFM and above, running multiple shifts, that trade is usually decisive. Send us your flow, pressure, run hours and electricity rate and we will put a heatless, heated purge and blower purge machine side by side on your actual numbers.
What Sets the XCHBA Apart
- Ambient air regeneration: a dedicated blower supplies the regeneration air, so compressed air is not consumed to dry the bed.
- Compressed Air Cooldown standard: the bed is cooled before it returns to service, protecting the dew point at tower changeover.
- 7 inch color touchscreen: full cycle status, dew point, alarms and service history on one screen instead of a two-line display and a code chart.
- NEMA 4 electrical enclosures standard: rated for indoor or outdoor installation with no enclosure upgrade.
- Prefilter and afterfilter mounted: the desiccant is protected from oil carryover and your downstream air from desiccant fines, out of the crate.
- Full-size inlet and outlet connections: up to 6 inch NPTF at 1200 SCFM, so the dryer is not the restriction in your header.
- Energy Management System option: dew point demand control that extends the drying cycle when the plant runs light, cutting blower and heater energy along with it.
- Champion Pneumatic quality: a Gardner Denver brand with more than a century of compressed-air engineering behind it.
Choosing Your Configuration
| Configuration | What You Get | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Standard -40°F | Fixed-cycle blower purge regeneration with the 7 inch color touchscreen controller, NEMA 4 enclosures, compressed air cooldown, and the mounted prefilter and afterfilter package. The dryer regenerates on a set schedule whether or not it is fully loaded. | Plants that run at or near steady compressed-air demand through the shift, where the dryer is loaded most of the hours it is powered. |
| Energy Management System -40°F | Everything in the standard unit plus dew point demand control with a digital display. The controller reads actual moisture loading and extends the drying cycle when the plant is light, so blower and heater run time track real demand instead of a timer. | Any plant with variable demand, multiple shifts or seasonal swing. On a blower machine the EMS saves electrical energy directly, which is the operating cost that matters here. |
| 3-Valve Bypass (with either control package) | A factory-piped bypass around the dryer and its filters, so the unit can be isolated, serviced or rebuilt without shutting the plant air header down. | Any system that cannot take a planned outage. Specify the bypass at time of order; retrofitting one in the field costs far more than the factory option. |

Flows are rated at -40°F pressure dew point at standard inlet conditions, and the blower figures are Champion's published ratings. The regeneration heater rating and total full-load electrical data vary by configuration, so we confirm those with the factory for your electrical submittal rather than leaving an electrician to size a feeder off a catalog page. Ask us for certified general-arrangement drawings and crated freight weight before you pour a pad or book a truck.

Ideal Applications
A blower purge dryer belongs on large, hard-running compressed air systems where purge air is a line item somebody has noticed: plant air headers at 150 SCFM and up running two or three shifts, automotive and heavy manufacturing, glass and plastics, food and beverage processing, pharmaceutical production, pneumatic instrumentation and control air, spray finishing lines, blow molding, textile manufacturing, and outdoor or unheated piping that would otherwise freeze. It is also the right answer when a plant is at the ceiling of its compressor capacity and does not want to buy another compressor just to feed a dryer's purge.
Factory Options
Beyond the control and bypass packages priced in the dropdowns above, the XCHBA Series supports several factory-configured options quoted at time of order:
- Indoor Tower Insulation: reduces heat loss from the regenerating tower and improves regeneration efficiency indoors.
- High Humidity Alarm: alarms when outlet moisture rises above setpoint.
- High Outlet Temperature Alarm: alarms on elevated outlet temperature during or after regeneration.
- 575V Power and CRN Registration: Canadian Registration Number and 575V configurations are consult-factory for part number, price and lead time.
Send us your model and the options you need and we will quote the configured part number and current lead time.
Mounted Filtration and Replacement Elements
Every XCHBA arrives with its prefilter and afterfilter installed. Change the elements annually, keep the drains working, and the desiccant bed will do its job for years. Element part numbers by dryer model:

Replacement desiccant is standard activated alumina, available in 4-8mm (part 698350B) and 2-5mm (part 699279B) 50 lb quantities. Call or email us with your dryer model and we will quote elements and a full desiccant charge, and tell you which ones are worth keeping on the shelf.
Sizing, Installation and Electrical
Size the dryer to the actual SCFM passing through it at your operating pressure, not to compressor nameplate horsepower, and size for the hottest, wettest day your compressor room sees rather than the average one. Install a properly sized wet receiver tank ahead of the dryer with a working drain, keep inlet air temperature within specification, and leave service access on all sides for tower recharge and valve work.
A blower purge machine takes in ambient air, so the intake needs reasonably clean air and the room needs to handle the regeneration exhaust. Electrically it is a 460/3/60 machine with NEMA 4 enclosures, and the blower and heater together make it a larger electrical load than a heatless dryer of the same capacity. We confirm the full-load figures with the factory for your submittal before the order ships. Our engineers will review your layout and your one-line at no charge.
Desiccant Life and Service
Activated alumina in a properly filtered dryer typically gives several years of service before the bed needs recharging. The fastest way to destroy a desiccant bed is oil carryover from an upstream compressor, which is exactly why the XCHBA ships with a coalescing prefilter as standard equipment. Change the elements on schedule, keep the drain working, verify the tower changeover is completing, and the bed will last. Champion supports the XCHBA with replacement elements, valve kits, blower and heater parts and bulk desiccant charges; we stock and quote all of it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What dew point does the XCHBA deliver?
-40°F (-40°C) pressure dew point, which corresponds to ISO 8573-1 humidity Class 2. Champion does not publish a -100°F option for the XCHBA Series in the current price list. If you need a Class 1 dew point, ask us and we will quote the platform that provides it rather than guess at a configuration.
Heatless, heated purge or heated blower purge?
Heatless is the simplest and cheapest to buy and consumes the most compressed air. Heated purge adds a heater so the dryer regenerates on much less compressed air. Blower purge, like this XCHBA, uses ambient air moved by a blower for the regeneration itself, so compressed air consumption drops to the cooldown step alone. Capital cost and mechanical complexity rise in that same order. The crossover depends on your flow, run hours and what a kilowatt-hour costs you, so send us those three numbers and we will run it.
How does the XCHBA compare with the XCHP heated purge dryer?
Both are X-Series twin tower heated dryers with mounted filtration, NEMA 4 enclosures and 150 psig ratings. The XCHP Series heats compressed purge air and costs less to buy. The XCHBA adds a blower so ambient air does the work, costs more up front, gives back more compressed air, and carries the 7 inch color touchscreen as standard. At the top of the range the difference in purge air can justify the step up in a single year.
Does it still use any compressed air?
Yes, a small amount for the cooldown step, which is standard on this series. The regeneration heating itself runs on ambient air from the blower, which is where the savings come from.
Do I still need to buy filters?
No. The prefilter and afterfilter are included and factory mounted on every configuration listed here. What you should not skip is a properly drained wet receiver upstream and diligent separator maintenance on an oil-flooded rotary screw. Oil is what kills desiccant.
What is the maximum working pressure?
150 psig. If your system runs above that, tell us and we will quote the correct platform instead.
What power does it need?
460/3/60 as standard, with NEMA 4 enclosures. 575V is a consult-factory configuration. Because both a blower and a heater are involved, confirm the full-load amps with us before your electrician sizes the feeder.
Should I add the Energy Management System?
On a blower purge machine the EMS saves electricity rather than compressed air, by shortening how often the blower and heater have to run when the dryer is lightly loaded. On any plant with variable demand it is worth specifying, and it is far cheaper to order than to add later.
What is the warranty?
The XCHBA falls under Champion's X-Series warranty statement. Ask us for the current statement and for extended coverage pricing on your model.
How long does delivery take?
Lead time depends on capacity and options, and these are large machines built to order. Call us with your model and we will confirm the current factory schedule before you place the order.
