What Each Part Does

CGRP-96-000 Mechanical Override

Mounts to a Champion CDV1-5 zero air loss mechanical demand drain and gives the operator drain on demand by hand. Useful when you want to clear a bowl before a shutdown, prove the drain during a service walk, or purge a slug of condensate after a humid weekend without waiting for the float to lift. Port size 1/8". This override fits the CDV1-5 only.

P13749A Brass Isolation Valve with Strainer

A brass isolation valve with a built-in strainer, sized 1/2" NPT male by 1/4" NPT female on the inlet and 1/4" NPT male on the outlet. It performs two jobs at once. The strainer catches rust scale and pipe debris before they reach the drain seat, which is the single most common cause of an electric drain wedging open and bleeding air. The isolation valve lets a technician close off, service or replace the drain without depressurizing the receiver or shutting the compressor down. Champion lists it as the recommended companion to its electronic timer drain, and it is good practice on any drain point.

Why an Inlet Strainer Matters

Compressed air condensate is not clean water. It carries rust scale off the inside of the receiver, carbon and varnish from the compressor, thread sealant, and pipe mill debris left over from installation. All of that migrates to the lowest point in the vessel, which is exactly where the drain sits. When a particle reaches the valve seat, one of two things happens: the drain wedges open and vents compressed air continuously until somebody notices the noise, or it holds shut and the vessel floods, carrying liquid downstream into filters, tools and finishes. A strainer upstream of the drain stops both outcomes for a fraction of the cost of either one.

Ideal Applications

Install the P13749A on every electric drain point in the plant: receiver tanks, aftercoolers, moisture separators, filter bowls, dryer sumps and header drip legs. Add the CGRP-96-000 to CDV1-5 demand drains in service bays and any location where an operator wants to be able to clear the bowl on demand rather than waiting for the float.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the CGRP-96-000 override fit a CDV1-32?

No. Champion publishes this override for the CDV1-5 only. For manual draining on a CDV1-32, use an isolation valve and a manual drain point in the discharge line, or call us to review the application.

Do I need the isolation valve if my drain already has one upstream?

If you already have a full port ball valve ahead of the drain, you have the isolation function covered. The P13749A still adds the strainer, which is what keeps debris off the drain seat. Many plants fit it in place of a plain ball valve for exactly that reason.

Is the P13749A strainer cleanable?

Yes. Close the isolation valve, remove the strainer element, flush the collected scale out, and reinstall. Make it part of the same annual service visit where you clean the drain itself.
