The CMDB Series replacement membrane bundle is the genuine Champion Pneumatic membrane element for the CMD Series membrane air dryer. The bundle is the working heart of the dryer: a spiral-wrapped assembly of hollow polymer fibers that lets water vapor permeate out while your compressed air passes through. When a bundle reaches the end of its service life, this is the part you replace, and the dryer housing, brackets and filtration all stay where they are.

When to Replace the Bundle

A membrane bundle has no moving parts and no scheduled replacement interval. It degrades when it is asked to handle something it was not built for, and the usual culprit is oil. Oil vapor and aerosol coat the fiber walls and permanently block water transport, which is why every CMD ships with a coalescing pre-filter package and why Champion ties the three-year warranty to six-month element changes.

The symptom of a failing bundle is straightforward: outlet dew point climbs while inlet conditions, pressure and flow have not changed. Before you order a bundle, check three things. Is the pre-filter element within its six-month change interval? Is the filter drain actually discharging? Has inlet temperature or flow crept up past what the dryer is rated for? Those account for most dew point complaints, and all three are cheaper to fix. If the answer to all three is clean and the dew point is still high, the bundle is done.

The model number on your dryer nameplate is the CMD number. A dryer built with a pre-filter package carries an F1 or F2 suffix on its part number, and a BSP unit carries a B, but the bundle is selected on the base CMD number alone. If your nameplate is unreadable, send us a photo of the unit and we will identify it.

Do the Filters at the Same Time

If you are replacing a bundle, replace the pre-filter elements with it. A new membrane behind a loaded filter is a short-lived membrane. Champion references CMD maintenance kits in the current price list but does not publish kit part numbers or prices, so send us your model and we will quote the correct elements and kit from the factory alongside the bundle.

How long should a membrane bundle last?

There is no fixed interval. In a clean, well-filtered installation with the pre-filter elements changed on schedule, a bundle commonly runs for years. In a system with oil carryover it can be ruined in a season. Filtration is the whole story.

Can I use a bundle from a different CMD size?

No. Each bundle is built for one model's housing and flow rating. Order on the CMD number from your nameplate.

Is the bundle field replaceable?

Yes, it is a serviceable part. Depressurize and isolate the dryer first, follow the Champion service instructions for your model, and take care not to contaminate the new bundle during installation. If you would rather not, we can arrange service.

My dew point is high. Is it definitely the bundle?

Usually not. Check the pre-filter element age, confirm the drain is discharging, and verify inlet temperature and flow are within the dryer's rating. Those three explain most cases. Call us and we will work through it before you buy a bundle you may not need.

Do you carry the pre-filter elements too?
