Champion 15 HP RV Series: 46.8 CFM at 175 PSI on a 120 gallon tank
The 15 HP RV Series is the largest simplex package in Champion's RV line. It puts a splash lubricated two stage pump on a 120 gallon ASME receiver and delivers 46.8 CFM at 175 PSI, which is enough air for a four to six bay repair shop, a truck tire shop running two impact guns and a tire changer at the same time, a body shop with one DA sander and one spray booth, or a fabrication shop feeding plasma cutting and grinders. If your current 7.5 or 10 HP unit runs flat out and still loses pressure by mid morning, this is the normal next step.
Pick the tank first. VRV15F-12 is the vertical 120 gallon tank, the smaller footprint. HRV15F-12 is the horizontal 120 gallon tank, longer and lower, easier to tuck against a wall under a shelf. Pump, motor and output are identical.
Power is three phase only on this size: 208/230 volt or 460 volt. There is no single phase 15 HP RV. If you only have single phase service, look at the 10 HP RV Series or the R-Series vertical simplex, which is offered in single phase up to 15 HP. A 15 HP motor at 230 volt three phase typically draws around 40 amps at full load and about 20 amps at 460 volt, so plan a dedicated circuit and a disconnect within sight of the compressor. The mounted NEMA 1 magnetic starter is standard; confirm voltage and phase when you order because the starter heaters are sized to it.
Options are built in at the factory. A is the air cooled aftercooler, which knocks most of the water out before it reaches the tank and is worth having on any machine that feeds a dryer or paint work. O is low oil stop control, which shuts the unit down before a low crankcase runs the pump dry. AO is both. The base unit with no options is the lowest price in the table.
At 46.8 CFM you should pair the compressor with a refrigerated dryer rated at 50 CFM or more, such as the Quincy QPNC 64 CFM or the Chicago Pneumatic CPX 64 CFM, a timed or zero loss tank drain, a particulate and coalescing filter set and a spare pressure switch. Ships freight prepaid. Related pages: 45 CFM air compressors, 175 PSI air compressors, 15 HP air compressors, all Champion, Champion duplex R-Series if you need redundancy.
