An equivalent replacement for Busch part number 532.507.01, this mist eliminator element handles oil separation on the exhaust side of an oil lubricated vacuum pump. Air leaving the pumping chamber carries a fine oil aerosol, and the element gathers those droplets together so the oil can drain back into the machine.
Left in service too long, the media saturates and starts letting oil through, which shows up as smoke or an oily residue around the discharge. It also restricts flow, and that restriction turns into heat and higher energy use. A predictable change interval avoids both problems and keeps the pump holding the vacuum level the process was designed around.
