Atlas Copco P8000W: The Heavy Hitter of the P-Range
7,000 surge watts. 6,500 rated watts. 8 hours of runtime. One generator that doesn't blink.
If you've outgrown a 5 kW generator and you need a portable powerhouse that runs framing crews, dries flooded basements, keeps the dairy parlor moving, or backs up the whole house through a multi-day outage, the Atlas Copco P8000W portable generator is built for you. It's the largest open-frame conventional generator in Atlas Copco's P-range, and it has the engine, the fuel, and the chassis to prove it.
What the Atlas Copco P8000W Delivers
More usable power
6.5 kVA continuous output and a 7.0 kVA surge ceiling let you run a heavy 240V load — an electric water heater, a deep-well submersible pump, a stick welder — while still leaving capacity for tools and lighting on the 120V duplex outlets. That's the kind of headroom that separates a contractor-grade generator from a homeowner unit.
A serious 420 cc engine
The P8000W is powered by the Atlas Copco AC420FD, a 420 cc air-cooled single-cylinder OHV gasoline engine producing 9 kW of mechanical output (about 12 HP) at 3,600 rpm. EPA Tier 2 compliant. OHV design for cooler running, longer life, and less oil consumption. Cast-iron cylinder sleeve. This is a Honda-class engine architecture, built by Atlas Copco to its own industrial standards.
8 hours of runtime, 6.6-gallon tank
Run it overnight. Run it through a long shift. Run it through a windstorm. The 6.6-gallon fuel tank gives you 8 hours of autonomy at rated load and significantly longer at partial load.
Electric start with recoil backup
A 12V key starter (battery included) brings the AC420FD to life in seconds, with a recoil pull cord as a backup — so you always have a way to start, even if the battery is dead.
Wheel kit, AVR, and pro-grade protection
Pneumatic-style wheels and a folding handle make the 183-lb unit one-person movable. Automatic Voltage Regulation keeps line voltage stable for sensitive electronics. Low-oil shutdown, master circuit breaker, hour meter, and an analog voltmeter are all standard. The full roll-cage steel frame and rubberized engine mounts mean it shrugs off the bouncing it'll take in the bed of a service truck.

Where the P8000W Earns Its Keep
- Framing & roofing crews — run two miter saws, a couple of nail-gun compressors, a portable AC unit, and a job radio simultaneously without tripping breakers.
- Flood & restoration work — power 240V submersible pumps, dehumidifiers, and air movers from one machine.
- Whole-home essentials backup — with a transfer switch you can run a well pump, sump pump, refrigerator/freezer, furnace blower, lighting circuits, and a few outlets simultaneously. Bigger homes with central AC may still need to load-manage, but most essentials run easily.
- Dairy & livestock operations — keep parlor vacuum pumps, milk-tank chillers, ventilation, and lighting going through an outage. The 240V outlet feeds into a transfer-switched essential-loads sub-panel without trouble.
- Outdoor events & mobile catering — food trucks, festival booths, and pop-up vendors with multiple appliances and lighting circuits.
- Welding — the L14-30R outlet handles most 30-amp 240V stick and small MIG welders.
