Replacement connecting rod assemblies, complete with needle bearing and automotive-type inserts, for Kellogg-American 321, 331, 332, Z332, 335, 452 and 462 two-stage air compressor pumps. Supplied by AirComParts under the ACS Kellogg clone replacement line.

These pumps use steel rods with automotive-type inserts at the big end and a needle bearing at the wrist pin, which is why they survive decades of service that would finish a cast aluminium rod. When one does fail it is almost always because the oil feeder ring stopped lifting oil, and by then the rod, the insert and usually the crank journal have all gone together. A rod that has knocked should never be refitted: the bore will be out of round even if it looks serviceable.

• 321 / 321TV: 1 to 2 HP, two-stage, two-cylinder. Takes different rods for the LP and HP cylinders

• Z332: new-style long-stroke 332, 3 to 7.5 HP, two-stage, two-cylinder

How many do I need?

A two-cylinder 321, 332, Z332 or 335 takes two rods. A four-cylinder 452 or 462 takes four. On the 332, 335, 452 and 462 the same rod part serves both the low-pressure and the high-pressure cylinder; the 321 is the exception, using 38270 on the low-pressure side and 38271 on the high-pressure side. The Z332 takes its own rod, Z-38272, which does not interchange with the standard 332.
