The aftercooler sits on the pump discharge and drops the temperature of the air leaving the high-pressure cylinder before it reaches the receiver. That is where most of the water in a compressed air system comes out: cool the discharge air and the moisture condenses in the cooler and the tank, where it can be drained, instead of travelling down the line into tools, filters and dryers. A collapsed, corroded or blocked aftercooler is one of the most common reasons an otherwise healthy pump starts pushing hot wet air into a shop.

Which one do I need?
Go by the pump casting, not by the compressor nameplate. The pump model is cast or stamped on the crankcase. Kellogg-American pumps were fitted to a very wide range of machines over decades, so the tank badge is not a reliable guide. If you are not sure, send us a photo of the pump and the number on the crankcase and we will identify it.
