This aftercooler is a genuine Chicago Pneumatic replacement part that cools compressed air right after it leaves the compression stage. Hot air holds a large amount of moisture, and by dropping the air temperature the aftercooler condenses much of that water so it can be drained away before it travels downstream.
An aftercooler in good working order protects tools, piping, and dryers from excess heat and moisture, and it takes a significant load off any refrigerated or desiccant drying equipment that follows it.
